Talking Heads question
so - I accidentally clicked on the iTunes link-thingy when I was going through my Talking Heads playlist, and I saw a new album listed on the store... but there's no info about it.

the title is: Talking Heads Bonus Rarities & Outtakes
the track listing is :

I Want to Live
New Feeling (Alternate Version )
First Week / Last Week.... Carefree (Acoustic Version)
A Clean Break (Let's Work) (Live At CBGB's, 10/10/77)
These Boots Are Made for Walkin' (David Byrne Solo Acoustic Version)
I'm Not Ready Yet (David Byrne Solo Acoustic Version)
Thank You for Sending Me an Angel (Alternate Version)
Warning Sign (Alternate Version)
Artists Only (Alternate Version)
Electricity (Instrumental)
Drugs (Alternate Version)
I Zimbra (12' Version)
Crosseyed and Painless (Alternate Version)
The Lady Don't Mind (Moog March Version)
People Like Us (John Goodman Vocal Version)
Gangster Of Love ( LP Version )
Lifetime Piling Up (Remastered)
Popsicle

...I mean - I know I didn't have everything of the TH, but I'm still really surprised about this release & there was no info on www.talking-heads.net

are these just left over tracks from Brick?

(edit)
ok - I just skimmed through some of my stuff, it seems that "I Want to Live" "Popsicle" and "Gangster of Love" are from "Sand in the Vaseline"

"Drugs" sounds like the one that was on that other Boxset, I forget what it was called... it was like the updated version of "Sand..."

and the iTunes album is being released by Rhino - so this must just be the tracks that were missed off of Brick (?)

Re: Talking Heads question
i'm not that big of a talking heads fan,
and you would know more than me...

however, i just picked up the dualdisc
version of 'speaking in tongues'...one
of my favorites..

i really liked the extra tracks, and
there are 2 new different versions
of 'burning down the house'...i wonder
why they didn't make an extended
version when it first came out?

anyways, the aggravating thing about
it is, that the new extended mix of
'burning down the house' is only in 5.1..
(so i had to rip/convert it down to stereo)..

also, this is one of those weird cd/dvd
combos on one disc..i wish it were two
separate ones...i'm not a big fan of
surround sound releases..but this was
the only way to get the new tracks..

later

Re: Talking Heads question
I didn't even realize that Burning Down the House was extended... when I bought Brick, I was back at home in Iowa - and I left it there for my dad to listen/watch when I returned to DC

I only had enough time to rip the cd's onto my computer, and not try out any of the dvd's.

I personally don't mind dualdisc, but they do make me very paranoid. I always worry one side is going to get scratched, and they're difficult to handle

-> and btw - the version of "Drugs" on the new iTunes album isn't the same as on "Once in a Lifetime: The Talking Heads Box" it has some studio chatter and the ending is a bit different too

and a heads up on an upcoming release: David Byrne + Brian Eno's "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" is going be re-released soon. It was remastered, and has more outtakes. I don't know, however if these new tracks were already 'released' on the bootleg "Ghosts" or not.

Re: Talking Heads question
As far as I know, the new CD/DVD releases are just the ones from the Brick. I have a 14 track version of the Outtakes/Demos thing and I do know that many of the tracks ARE the bonus tracks from the new releases, but I think that it is missing a few...

Just wondering to anyone who has one or more of the remasters...do they sound better? I mean, like noticably better? I wanna buy the Remain in Light one because I don't own it on CD and I really want to see the Once in a Lifetime video, but I don't know if I will unless the audio sounds better. A lot of times I can't tell any difference between a remaster and and the original disc.

As for the Eno/Byrne thing...I own this in MP3 form and on vinyl, and the vinyl does have one track called "Qor'an" that was cut from the CD (for political reasons? I hope not...) and replaced with "Very, Very Hungry". Both tracks are good though, do you know if there's going to be any more besides those? Because if there is I just might have to buy the disc...

Re: Talking Heads question
I have only heard Remain In Light but it is massively better than the original issue. I always thought that the original record sounded better than the CD issue. The new version remedies that problem. Plus the 5.1 mix is really cool if you can play it on a good system.

actually - none of the tracks on the outtakes iTunes album are on the new re-releases.

Brick is basically just all eight of the remastered albums put into one box, so that if you want all of the albums, it's cheaper than buying each individually. And yes - the albums do sound noticeably better.

as far as I know - the Bryne/Eno track Qu'ran was cut from the album b/c of the controversy associated with it (it apparently has a passage from the book spoken during the track). It was only on the original pressings of the vinyl album, so not necessarily 12" has that song.

The re-release of "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" (the Byrne/Eno album) [B/will[/B] have bonus tracks -

12. Pitch to Voltage
13. Two Against Three
14. Vocal Outtakes
15. New Feet
16. Defiant
17. Number 8 Mix
18. Solo Guitar with Tin Foil

...so no one knows anything about the iTunes outtakes album?

Re: Talking Heads question
Hmmm, guess I should have researched that. In this case, yeah, I have SOME of the tracks from the iTunes release, but I'm missing a few...

The 12" I have of My Life in the Bush of Ghosts does have this track, and it does have some readings from the Qur'an, but I really don't see why it had to be cut....

if I'm not mistaken - the Quran is the word of God... and this would have a physical representation of God (which *I'm pretty sure* you can't do) and on top of that - someone could say that it was a commercial gimmic (like Madonna on her last album)

basically - I think the worry was something along the lines of what happened w/ that Danish newpaper... except well - I'm sure Byrne/Eno would never have suspected something as extreme as that... but you get the point
