I saw Sigur Ros Friday, my experience:
It's in an Opera House. I've got good seats, but has any dirts seen them before? I own Agaeti Byrjun, ( ), and Takk...so I'm really hoping they'll play some classics (Svefn-g-englar, Staralfur, and ( ) #4) but idk.

Any comments? Preparation techniques, etc. ?

Now for past tense:

Me and my friend were proably the youngest people there. The opera house was gorgeous. I bought a poster then ran it out to the car. Me and my sigur ros t-shirt and everyone else was wearing blazers and scarfs.
We went to our seats and i started to get real nervous/excited. Then this woman with her b/f sat behind us andd was butchering the pronunciation of sigur ros and it just, i shrugged it and was glued to the stage.
They had an opening band that i enjoyed much but couldnt hear the name when they said it because of the woman behind me. It consisted of 4 girls, one in red that i fell in love with, that music prodigys, oh, and they were using a powerbook
This huge silk screen came down in front of the stage and light appeared behind the stage so you could see the silouhettes (idk if i spelled this right, i dont care) and we all went mad with joy. This big projector similiar to what underworld uses projected images on their silouhettes. IT WAS AMAZING! They performed Glosoli which was incredible. The mans voice is just, uncomparable.
They raised the screen and played random songs. My faviorite of the night was The Nothing Song (Untitled track 4).
One song i never heard they went crazy and jonsi threw his Les Paul on the ground and i cringed/gasped.
It was a great night, we had gas station food afterwards and it, well, dont.

All the while i was shouting victory rose and i love you jonsi!

Re: I'm seeing Sigur Ros Friday, what to expect?
i saw them two times:
- once before the hype (Agaetis Byrjun just came out, but nobody heard of it here yet)
- once on their () tour, when they were reasonably known.

the first time was unforgettable: a room full of quiet people (a club of, let's say... 500 people?), all stearing in awe at the stage, mouths hanging open, brains flying...
the second time was at a festival, tent-style, but i was kind of distracted by the audience: lots of people were chattering, clapping before a song would finish (admittetly: a difficult thing to know if you're not a fan ), and so on.

preparations? errr... if you're into it: bring some grass along

ps: another fun thing to do with sigur: take out your big headphones, play some sigur ros and wander around in a city where there's carnival going on - and enjoy bizarre scenes unfolding along mindblowing sounds...

i've seen them live once, F-ing beautiful. his voice is more amazing live than hearing it on cd. (okay, yeah duh!) I can't really say you can prepare for it, maybe take a shower, brush your teeth? i'll just say you won't be disappointed.

What kind of music? I've heard mention of them before on Live Journal and have been meaning to check them out but I keep forgetting.

Sigur Ros are pretty unique in terms of style. Experimental soundscapes, very emotional atmospheres, lots of twinkly pianos and then booming drums and guitars shredded with violin bows. It's like music from another world.

i saw them once in Philadelphi in early 2003, the () tour with The Album Leaf and Amina. It was hauntingly beautiful...they're very professional and precise, and the build-ups were so strong and loud that by the encore tracks, all the ushers and theater people were standing in the wings in awe of the marvelous noise.
Apparently they used to have video screens behind them, but not at the show i saw, and i dunno if they still do. Given that they played some tracks from "Takk..." for years (e.g. "Milano" and "gong", which were awesome even early on), you're in for a treat! Enjoy!
