what you'd like to hear on the new album...
not necessarily songs, but techniques, noises, etc.

i'd like to hear outside sounds. you know what i mean? like on dubno, there were tons of little noises that took you outside of your world and placed you in the world of the music. for example, the wind throughout the whole album, the thunder at the end of dirty epic, the leaves crunching and the gate squeaking in tongue... that was lovely. i hope there's that on the new album, they've kind of had an 'inside sound' since ahdo... can't really describe it except it sounds cut off and over produced. 'scribble' has a lot of echoey sounds that lead me to believe this album might be more 'open'. does anyone else agree?

Re: what you'd like to hear on the new album...
I also love the grass and gate sounds in Dubno and would like to hear more like that instead of odd beatless electronic tinkering like "Cuddle Fuckbunny and the Villagers".

What I would really like is for them to explore more is Karl's guitar playing. It is what makes their songs so unique and "not just a techno band". 8 Ball, Blue Ski, Sappys Curry, and Dirty Epic are all fine examples of how his guitar is one of the best parts of these tracks.

I also hope there are many layers to the music and subtle little variations that perhaps don't repeat ('Twist' has a lot of these, as does the entire "I'm a girl, and I'm a princess, and I'm a big sister, and this is my horse"). Just shit where you go, OH WOW I never heard layer X or Y or Z before, and I've heard this track countless times before!

Other than that, I usually just want their albums to surprise me (and possibly disappoint/anger me for a week) until I grow to love them eventually. It's happened like that for every album so far and they would be total assholes to break this hate/love tradition.

with the outburst of happy themes in the new songs, with which i have no issues about, in fact, i love to hear happy lyrics coming from a person who is going through good times (it feels ace, isn't?), i would love to hear some gloom contrasting and fighting with that shine. i'm thinking about dirty epic, dark train and most of STITI, which feel darker. but i also think about thing in a book, 215 miles, cherry pie, deep arch and kittens; there's a positive element on those songs.

i agree with 'karl needs to show his guitar skills more', because the new dark & long jam had this cool guitar part and it's my fav moment of the song.

More dirty guitar is always welcome. I suppose it would be asking too much for another Dirty Epic...

With respect to positivity, I've no objection to Karl being happy but I do think songs like Two Months Off and Scribble kind of fall over the precipice of cheesiness. The band is called Underworld, I think that darkness is inherent in their work.

I really like what they're doing. A lot of people have kind of complained that the new music has kind of an 80's feel. Let's not forget they were originally a New Wave group. Mk1 wasn't too great but they did write some great songs as Freur and you have to remember that it's in their roots!! I want to hear more good vibes, more dance music, something upbeat since I thought OWB was a little down, something epic and life-affirming (maybe too much to ask)

I'd like to just hear them experiment with new things - like what they've been doing with their past records.
But I most definitely agree with the mongoose - it'd be cool to hear Karl's guitar mixed in here and there. Like in "Best Mamgu Ever" - which IMO is their best song.
And also: I want their albums to surprise me too - which is what I'm trying to say with them experimenting more. That's one aspect I love about them: their sound evolves with each record. And you never know where it'll go after the latest: which is what I'm contemplating like...a record after OWB. Unpredictable. ♥

Yeah, if "Good Day Today" is really them, I'd say that they are still pretty damn experimental!

Yes, i really enjoy Karl's guitar stylings, so more of that's fine by me.

But what i really want is a driving, electronic album with some edge.
OWB had a bit too much piano and very open/live feel, almost a chill-out record in spots. When i put on STITI or BF, there's an aggression and of course many of the tracks are dancefloor decimators. Nothing on OWB really approaches that.

Oh, and an epic long track or tracks mixed continuously, that'd be great!
