Mark Begich wins senate race.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081119/ap_on_el_se/stevens

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Sen. Ted Stevens, the longest serving Republican in Senate history, narrowly lost his re-election bid Tuesday, marking the downfall of a Washington political power and Alaska icon who couldn't survive a conviction on federal corruption charges. His defeat by Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich moves Senate Democrats within two seats of a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority.

now all eyes go to the count (and state-mandated recount) of the senate race in Minnesota between Norm Coleman and Al Franken.

And then, I'll be voting on Dec. 2 for the last undecided senate seat- Saxby Chambliss vs. Jim Martin.

Franken hasn't lost (yet). Also, there's still the run-off election in Georgia to watch.

I see this as good news, if only because it puts Sarah Palin one step further away from a potential 2012 Presidential bid. Not that there haven't been some very good gubernatorial candidates who have made it to Prez, but at this stage anything that might put a spanner in the works is good by me.

Yes, good in keeping Palin a little further away, but I'm not eager for a filibuster-proof Democratic majority. I actually hope Franken loses. I can't say I care for how he handles himself politically.

And thank goodness Alaska is at least just barely good enough to not elect a newly convicted felon.

Re: Mark Begich wins senate race.
Glad Stevens conceded (saves everyone time) and glad Franken is losing. I think the race in MN is still too close to call and they're headed for a recount. I don't think Martin in Georgia has much of a shot...the only reason they're having a run-off is because Chambliss barely missed the number where he'd be declared the victor free and clear. Besides, a lot of democratic GA voters went to the polls to put Obama in office...do you really think they'll return to the polls to vote for a democrat they may not have the same attachment to?
