Re: Beaucoup Fish - 4 CD Remastered Deluxe Box Set (8/25/2017)
after a quick review of the demo tracks, and the 2nd disc of mixes,
these are my thoughts (and intentions)...

------------------------
Disc Two
1. Nifter (5 A1317 Nov 97) 4:37
-------------------------------
a slow mellow song, with lyrics that sound familiar,
kind of like skym

2. Bruce Lee (Ricks 1st Dobro Mix) 5:10
----------------------------------------
pretty much like the album version, maybe a little more raw sounding
kinda has a bluesy vibe going on

3. UW Orange Bed (Sept97) 7:01
------------------------------
we've heard these sounds before, on some web tracks, and elsewhere
on lemon jams.. still pretty cool

4. Skym (A A1317 Nov 97) 4:54
------------------------------
a pretty mellowed out version, not really that different

5. Jumbo (Diff Bass 2 A1317 Nov 97) 7:49
----------------------------------------
i like the different beats, and the background keyboards,
don't think they played a version of this live..

6. Push Upstairs (Alt 1 A1336 July 98) 3:54
--------------------------------------------
shorter, more intense version of the song, a little more
electro and fuzzy sounding

7. King Of Snake (Garage Mix A1313 Set 97b) 8:55
------------------------------------------------
yet another raw version, but very basic with the sounds,
definitely might have heard a version like this live

8. Something Like A Mama (Alt Mix A1340 July 98 A Upstairs) 10:10
------------------------------------------------------------------
sounds like the web jam version, nice and extended

9. Please Help Me 7:35
----------------------
same as prior release

10. Yeah Plan (From A1385) 4:11
--------------------------------
very interesting, noodley sounding track, wonder where this would
have gone if they used it on the album

11. Ramajama 8:55
-----------------
awesome, problably the best upbeat track, with cool vocals, and
beats and synths that they've used live many times.

Disc Four
1. Bruce Lee (DJ Hype & DJ Zinc Vocal Mix) 6:40
2. Bruce Lee (DJ Hype & DJ Zinc Instrumental Mix) 6:33
--------------------------------------------------------
having heard the first mix before, these are basically
2 drum and bass remixes of the track, not bad

3. Bruce Lee (Futureshock Remix) 8:11
-------------------------------------
a much more electro sounding version of the song, well done
and polished in the futureshock style, very 4 to the floor beat with it.

4. King Of Snake (Claudio Coccoluto Remix) 8:23
5. King Of Snake (Martinez Remix) 7:52
---------------------------------------
2 of the 3 italo disco versions of the song, unfortunately,
the sound quality is not very good, even though the mixes
are pretty good. nice electro sounds, and discoey beat to them.

6. King Of Snake (Dave Angel Remix) 6:54
-----------------------------------------
from one of the first promos for the song, this mix stays true
to the original, including the house piano parts

7. Jumbo (Rob Rives & Francois Kevorkian Dub) 8:20
---------------------------------------------------
nice radical dub version, with the rives and kevorkian touch of extending
it, but keeping the original elements in it

8. Push Upstairs (Roger S Narcotic Haze Dub) 6:43
9. Push Upstairs (Adam Beyer Rmx 2) 4:42
-------------------------------------------
2 more promo mixes. the roger s mix, is much more of a stripped down
marching beat put to it. the adam beyer remix is a super intense beat
heavy and dramatic chord version... nice to see them here.
================================================== ======

i think the addition of these tracks and discs makes it worthwhile to me and collectors

don't know why the sound quality is low on the 2 king of snake mixes, i guess the
high res versions might be better?

they had extra time on the 2 remix discs, so they could have squeezed more onto them.

oh well. so is this it for the super deluxe versions?
probably for me.. unless they really pull something out ..

beaucoup fish is what got me into them, and even though its not my favorite album,
seeing them live several times, and collecting the tracks, finding the dirtylist and more
is what kept me a fan all these years. nice to see the tracks getting their dues.
