a great deal of the good dubstep this year and the last feels a bit too slick and gentrified to me. i miss that murky vibe from 04-06, where the bassweight felt dangerous. i don't know how i feel about the techno crossover stuff. it can be quality, but also go overboard with fiddly nuances. for me, it slows the music down in a way.

Martyn has some very raw stuff (Shadowcasting!) and a lot of very polite stuff. it sounds polite when he plays it out, too, but maybe that's also a function of his DJing, which is also very proper & polite. i don't know.
