I think that's a bit extreme. It's not like you'd walk in with a reel to reel asking where to put it.
You walk up and ask the sound guy for a feed, he says no, then you walk away. I sincerely doubt that would get you thrown out.
My friend who is the house engineer used to do this all of the time. Usually they'd say no, but a few times they'd at least let him stand in that area and hang out with him. He knew the lingo and the equipment commonly used so that helped I am sure.
