Well, it makes it a different song, effectively. But that is what remixers do. They strip out the bits they want and build their own sound around them. I don't think it sounds unfinished as such. Just minimal.
A "compare and contrast" example would be This World by
Slam vs the
remix of it. The original was light, airy, happy and melodic. The Wiighnomy/Wruhme remix was stripped down, dark, glitchy and virtually bereft of melody at all. You wouldn't even recognise them to be the same song if they were played back to back. At least Oliver Huntemann has kept a large element of the original.
It's all horses for courses. As I said earlier, I don't think this is better than the original just different from it, and I like it just as much. I am sure there will be other more "classic" club mixes coming out soon too.
