I had high hopes for it and usually try a great deal to temper those hopes prior to seeing a film, but with the Life Aquatic and repeat viewings I've found more that I like, but it just doesn't coalesce in the same way that Tenenbaums and Rushmore did so beautifully. At times it also felt just 'too fucking too', like weird for the sake of being weird, or this kind of hodgepodge, piecemeal of ideas that were just thrown up on screen with very little thought or consideration other, they're cool.

There are wonderful bits of dialog throughout, like when Steve first talks to Ned and he has to go smoke a joint and returns stating simply, 'Sorry about that. You caught me with one foot off the merry-go-round tonight.'
