sorry for the double - post but...
with the SMD album, when I first got it - I was SUPER psyched.
then I was like "hey... 4 out of 10 tracks have been out... for a while"
which followed with "eh, so what - it's really only 3 old songs, I mean... 'It's the Beat' is basically the lead-off single, so that shouldn't count as an 'old' song"
then: "wait a sec... 'Hustler' is supposed to be like - twice as long... and 'I Believe' has even been edited" [edit] and btw - even "Tits & Acid" was shortened by like 10seconds... for ...no... ...apparent... ...reason...
which is when I noticed how short - overall - the album was only like 30-35 minutes long, and they actually released a second 'limited edition' version with a bonus disc
I'm just glad I didn't waste more money to purchase the limited edition x2cd version... as
two of the 6 bonus tracks have already been released under different names... and the bonus disc is still longer than the proper album
so it's one of those situations where, when you stop and think about it... it's kind of a rip-off. I just CAN'T enjoy the album as much knowing that:
A) a significant portion of the tracks are
old
B) the "album" is just barely longer than a cd single
C) despite the ample space on the disc... they still managed to not include some songs that have been recorded - which should've been included, at least to pad out the album (like: "The Count" "Clik" "Pulse" "Sick" hell - even the "bonus tracks" should've been on the album)
I just basically find it almost
insulting when a band makes an album so short... the only time when it's more acceptable, is in the case where the album was released before the invention the the compact disc, or if it's like a punk band who's songs last ~2min
and I mean ... COME ON
it's the beat 3:22 -> off the album
Its The Beat (Radio edit) 3:25
Its The Beat (Album Version) 6:31
Its The Beat (Dub mix) 6:32
It's The Beat (Dub for Annie Mac) 6:36 -> same as "Dub Mix"
then there's the "It's the Eat" version which is only on the 7"
(haven't had a chance to rip the vinyl yet...)
[edit]
...I will say..
at least they're not still milking "Never Be Alone"
or - to all you scenesters -> "We Are Your Friends" :P
