this album really illuminates some of Bjork's weaknesses IMO. she's really quite monochromatic as a vocalist/idol. the more esoteric, detailed, and bombastic the production, the more her singing (which almost sounds like an afterthought, like it only needs to sound like Bjork to be interesting) sounds slapped over the track like a stamp. the exceptions would be Innocence and Declare Independence i guess. Vespertine was probably the most successful at uniting her voice with interesting production. she does mesh well with Antony, but overall, her idol persona is really wearing down on me ... it's so one-dimensional.

i think she's a much better curator than a super-idol. i think my ideal Bjork album at this point would totally sublimate her voice into an accessory for bleeding-edge production, but i'm sure she's far too narcissistic to ever let the tracks speak for themselves.
