I also downloaded a replacement copy of the David Byrne album "Feelings"... which was one of my favorite albums when I was in high school... I can't believe that I never replaced it until now (a friend 'borrowed' the album, then lost it years ago). It's an amazing album - like, very pop-y sounding (but in a good way) but with some really clever mixtures of musical styles. Like, for example - "The Gates of Paradise" is like a gospel drum & bass track with some country rock thrown in (and it actually works)
some of the Yoko Ono tracks weren't so hot, but the Spiritualized version of "Walking On Thin Ice" is incredible
the 7L "Bladerunners" mix is quite possibly the best mix I've heard in quite some time as well. here's a review, courtesy of Turntablelab ->
"True cut and paste has become a lost artform. With programs such as Ableton, mash-ups have quickly taken over, kinda like how silk-screening has taking over actual painting. Nonetheless, when someone actually puts out a real cut and paste tape, it's a dj triumph. This shit takes years to come up with: collecting samples and ideas, precise editing, and of course, the deep collection that you know inside and out. 7L and partner Razor have come out with one of the most impressive C&P tapes in a while, (possibly one of the best ever). They've truly put some major work into this, but more importantly, they've kept it fun... anybody can get into this. Even Kenny Dope and Riz, cut and paste kings, are hyping this up. What kind of edits expect: old school hip-hop, disco, 80s, electro, dance classics, and party breaks. 38 edits. Highly recommended."
