Re: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the Beginning
I just saw this...
R. Lee Ermy is like the star of the movie. it's all about him.
It's also very brutal. It's still an American horror movie (read: very quick cuts, shaky camera movements, can hardly really see anything), but the violence and sound effects and what they do get away with make it a pretty hard R.
Even though they say it's a prequel, it's pretty much the same story as the rest... I guess this is just supposed to be the first time that a group of horny teens breaks down in rural texas and gets eaten. nothing too surprising with the story or characters... but I think it delivers for the existing fans.
I thought the 03 remake was decent... right now I think this one was better than that one, although still just shy of "good" for me due to all that stylistic todays-version-of-the-70s cookie cutter horror stuff and ultra-fast cuts on ultra-close-ups. fans of the 03 remake should go bonkers over this though.
PS. The dude that plays leatherface was there along with the whole crew of the movie... and his voice is just as scary as his physique.
