Re: The good albums of 2005
As I've pointed out before, I have a real weakness for dirty south rap, and I just bought the long-awaited, just-released Slim Thug - Already Platinum and it's really kicking my ass. It's a thoroughly impressive rap album: no skits, solid production (mostly by the Neptunes) and a lot of clever rhymes. I scored the limited version with a free bonus disc, and it's definitely worth finding because all the extra songs are good. It also has a few "chopped and screwed" remixes of album tracks, which aren't all that effective because Slim Thug's voice is already so deep and his delivery is already so laid-back that slowing it down is overkill, but they're not terrible. This album goes in the "you'll love it if and only if you're into this kind of thing" category, but I am and I do.
Also, it somehow totally slipped my mind when I made this thread that the new Beck album is a 2005 release, and I do quite like that one. It's not as groundbreaking as many of his past releases, but it makes up for that with quality.
