[reply] -> _Re: Our Own Anthology_
i wanted to move this discussion
to another thread..but i'm not
sure where it should go...
if you want to start another one,
please do..
i just wanted to note that, i think
there will always be promos, either
vinyl or cd-r made, just because i
dont know what percentage of djs
in clubs use laptops/mp3 files only..
in fact if anything, i think i've seen
a resurgence in vinyl releases,
judging from all the vinyl on
releases and limited editions..
some examples of mixed releases:
new order - waiting for the sirens call 3x7"
exclusive, although many of the mixes are
on promo cds
new order - guilt is a useless emotion
(download only in the US)..although there
are cd promos with all the mixes
depeche mode - almost all of their singles
off the last album have several promo
vinyl and cds also
abc - re-released all their old 'neutron'
label albums with extra tracks, and
also as downloads...one album,
'abracadabra' is digital only, and
has several digital only extras also...
i'm sure there a lot more current groups
that have done this also, i've only tried
to keep with the older groups that i
used to listen to..
i think that labels are still experimenting
with the formats and trying to see which
methods are easiest to use, and profitable.
and yes, it does create quite a headache
for fans and collectors..
