Some people might like the "closing a deal" aspect. Legally, marriage ensures to have certain access rights or privileges should the partner die or fall ill (with all positive and negative implications).
The majority, of course, just ask themselves, a few years into the relationship, "We're already living together in one apartment, so why not take the massive tax bonuses as well?"
