I watched the first hour and then tuned in at the end for best picture.
Glad that "Slumdog" and Danny Boyle won - it was a great movie, but i hadn't seen the other nominations, so i also can't say if it was really the best, or it just benefitted from the good vibe story and the actors and locale involved. But after it cleaned up in the technical categories, i'm glad SM won...it would have been a shame to sweep up those awards and be locked out of the big prize.
Hugh Jackman's opening number, his low-budget tribute to the best Pictures was pretty embarasing to watch. I admire his energy, but it was funny for the wrong reasons!
Bummer that Peter Gabriel didn't win for best song ("Down to Earth" from Wall-E). It's certainly not nearly his best song, but it's a cute end to a really fine film, and after he dropped out of performing, since they were only giving him 65 seconds in a medley, i would have ben curious to see what he'd say on the podium. They'd probably have rushed him off
