True. I think along with his relative liberalism, his funny terrorist-sounding name, etc, that his race just makes this the perfect storm for a certain small (but now visible) ((and no less disturbing)) segment of the population. These are the sort of people who were more likely to be racist anyway.

What can we do about it? Aside from hope that they become more informed (which some of the less vocal ones undoubtedly will), then not a lot. In some cases, just wait for the remainder to die out! I mean, seriously, this is another case of people being on the wrong side of history, and if they don't change, society at large eventually will.
