Yes it is horrible to think about and yes I think it is a possibility. But it would also lead to nigh-on civil war if it happened. Everything is in place for social unrest, with the credit crunch, as it is. There was an interesting topic in the Grauniad yesterday about
Cultural Civil War. Heck, they even have the military in place to fight the rioters too.
(God. I am suddenly thinking about nasty nasty dystopian futures triggered by government plots to kill their opponents.
