Re: Meet Up Atlanta 3/28

It's a great venue. Saw Skinny Puppy there June 2007: good sound, and all the seats that surround the floor are stadium style, so there's not a bad seat in the place.

Re: Worst Film of 2008

Agreed. Ever listen to teenagers talking? Occasionally pretty stilted (and they struck me as very Minnesotan).

Re: No Country for Old Men

There is, of course, the novel (http://www.amazon.com/Country-Old-Men-Cormac-McCarthy/dp/0375406778) to seek out as well.

Re: Saul Williams, Trent Reznor and Alan Moulder

There are only a couple of tracks where Trent sings backup. Saul posted a very illuminating set of notes on all the tracks on his forum:

Re: Dirty Movie Club: Chungking Express

You should also check out Fallen Angels, which was supposed to be the third story in Chungking Express.

Re: Dirty Movie Club: Chungking Express

Just gotta say: the Tony Leung/Faye Wong story is my favorite of the two. They're both effortlessly funny and sexy (though "California Dreaming" getting played over and over again gets a little...

Re: El-P: I'll Sleep When You're Dead

I just picked up "High Water," which is also really good. I really enjoy El-P's production techniques, and love "Fantastic Damage" and his work with Cannibal Ox.

Re: Orbital Essentials: Granulate wed, 3/21

Nah, he'll just play the EP as separate tracks over the course of the show to piss you off. ;)

(Really: the Box EP was originally four separate mixes. Don't know what happened with that 2nd...

Re: nine inch nails - year zero

I liked a lot of the album right off, but some tracks have taken a while for me to get into. A bit like listening to Underworld's "Second Toughest..."-- my brain didn't work quite right; the music...

Re: nine inch nails - year zero

Huh. Lestiduz is the only one I find myself wandering with, but even then it has moments that pull me back to it. I think all of Mythmaker is pretty wonderful, to be honest. But then, it also...

Re: nine inch nails - year zero

I think "Broken" is Trent's greatest achievement. Short, focused, shows up Ministry at their own game.

This'll be interesting, but based on these leaked tracks from "Year Zero," I'll still say...

Re: Mythmaker

I've been listening to Mythmaker pretty consistently for the last few days. I love it: every time I put it on, it sucks me in to the extent that I can't really concentrate on anything else except...

Re: Milla Jovovich as Aeon Flux! well not really.....

Wow, is *that* derivative. Spotted shots lifted from any of the Blade films, Ghost in the Shell... could be fun derivative, though.

Re: Underworld and Prog Bands

That's correct: Merv and Joie of Eat Static were both members of Ozric Tentacles until the late 90s.

As for links... isn't it enough that people like any of these bands at the same time? ...

Re: Underworld and Prog Bands

This thread has an air of young people dismissing music their parents liked, and by young, I mean younger than 40.

Todd Rundgren was prog, and while he had his share of too-serious-to-loosen-up...

Re: Underworld and Prog Bands

I know it's not Underworld, but Orbital uses one to great effect in the second and third "movements" of "The Box"!

Re: 24

The first season was much better in that respect. There was one episode in the first half of season one where Jack actually got tired.

Re: DJ Shadow - What Does Your Soul Look Like

The second disk of Pre-emptive strike is a mega-mix by DJ Q-Bert, which is quite worth it for the full poem used in "Midnight in a Perfect World" (the "Gab" mix as it appears in the special edition...

Re: so why DIDN'T they tour?

Well, I'm not sure I really thought "Push the Button" sucked... I just got bored with it pretty quickly. It's like Tom and Ed are really talented sleepwalkers. Thing is, we know what they can do...

Re: CD vs. Vinyl

I was first convinced of the quality of the vinyl experience when I popped a maxi-single by the Cure that had a live version of "Faith" on my parents' decent turntable. Sounded like they were in the...

Re: so why DIDN'T they tour?

This is where I feel obliged to point out, in big letters:

US Radio SUCKS!

Not that "Push the Button" was all that good to begin with.

Respectfully, a US resident.

Re: Propellerheads are back in the form of Flexitones!

The "genre" says "lounge," and there are some chilled tracks, but a good bit of it is breakbeat in the Will White Style, seems like. There are samples if you can put up with the Flash.
