Re: Film of the year?

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead is quite good, although the shattering glass bang cuts got a bit old for me. I still like the structure though and everyone's performances were stellar.

Lumet's...

Re: The Wire

having succumbed to temptation and watched the review copies of Season 5, I can hands down say that this show has the biggest balls in all of TV land. It's really hard for me to believe that season 5...

Re: Film of the year?

yeah it's a pretty tough call between No Country and There Will Be Blood. I think not as many people will like BLOOD but those that do might like it more than COUNTRY. They're both great though and...

Re: No Country for Old Men

yeah... but if you slept through the scene, maybe you should just see it again to figure out what it means. it's not like it's a bad movie that seeing a second time would be too boring to do.

Re: 1-18-08

true, greenpea.

I know this isn't Cloverfield but since we're all talking about Lovecraft anyway I want to mention that THE MIST is very lovecraftian and there's one moment near the end that...

Re: 1-18-08

yeah I was a big Lovecraft fan at a formitive age so I still hold out hope for a decent Mythose movie (what I picture is more of a period detective story with aspects of the Mythos at the heart of a...

Re: Control

I got to see this tonight and just wanted to add a "me too" to the Loved It pile. I'm just a casual Joy Division fan so I can't speak to how accurate it was or how close the actors look/behave like...

Re: Scariest film moment?

IT was the first "grown up" book I ever read because I was so fascinated with it. The movie.... eh, if you see it today you'll be unimpressed. It was a TV miniseries so a lot of it's really...

Re: Werner Herzog

I'll throw in another vote for Aguirre although one of his latest (Rescue Dawn) is VERY accessible although his doc that its based on (Little Dieter Needs to Fly) has more Herzogian flavor I think.

Re: Scariest film moment?

Everyone's forgetting Poltergeist! Still probably one of the scariest films ever made!

-the guy's face chunking off into the sink
-the fucking clown doll in...

Re: R Rated Alien VS. Predator trailer!

yeah I used to agree with this but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Fantastic 4 part 2, Hulk part 2... it really doesn't seem to matter how many people see the movie because Wal Mart moms...

Re: R Rated Alien VS. Predator trailer!

I'd say a lot.

I remember in either the original comic or the first draft of the script that was floating around the internet like 15 years ago (don't remember it TOO well), it all took place on...

I hear ya. what made it worse (for me) was that when the season two box set came out (like what, 6 months ago??) the general consensus was that the rights to the pilot episode were so wrapped up in...

I don't know about you guys but I had REAL hopes for that Method/RedMan movie How High. If that movie didn't suck as much as it did, I think they had the chemistry and built-in audience to run out a...

Re: The Ten

This is really really funny. It's pretty absurd (like the best parts of The State) but due to the short story format, doesn't strain under the weight of having to have a 90-minute arc like Wet Hot...

yes. agreed. this movie is AMAZING. Yes it is funny but it's also almost an epic of mythological proportions. You'll be amazed at how much this film engages you and makes you care about a high score...

Re: Superbad

I really liked this one. It's not as "adult" as Apatow's comedies (meaning the protagonist doesn't have to grow up and become boring by the end) but it still has the regular troupe of actors and a...
