Taking the Republican attacks head-on and holding them up to ridicule like this seems to me a great way to fill up at least half that slot the Obama campaign have bought. Expose the scare tactics of the GOP so that they never work on voters again, not just for this election but for any other. I think Dawkins would call it a step in consciousness raising.

Yeah, I was opposed to the "Yes We Can" chant.

My suggestion was, "We Can't Make Things Any Worse Than They Already Are", but it doesn't roll off the tongue very smoothly.

Haha, now that would sound unusual from a stadium full of supporters!

Honestly jOHN, that's exactly why the Democrats have lost the last two elections - instead of presenting their own vision and plans, they tried to sell themselves as the "we're not Republicans" party. That was especially the case in 2004. If they want to win the White House, they have to be the party of ideas, which is what the "yes we can" banner represents - new Democratic party philosophies.

And interestingly, I've heard Dennis Prager, a conservative talk show host, say in the past week that it seems the Democrats are the party with all the plans (plans he doesn't agree with of course), and the Republicans are basically "not Democrats" this year. That bodes well for Obama I think.

Yes, and I suppose this goes some way to explaining how so many of the core traditional Republican base (ie. who you'd expect to be anti-McCain) are willing to 'support' him. In a way, McCain probably stood a better chance of getting their backing at this election, this time, than at any other. You just know that if he continues down this new path of correcting their ignorant "Obama's an A-rab terrorist" type remarks, they'll be feeling that same discomfort that comes with supporting a candidate because you have no other choice, not because you want to.

After all, it's not like the GOP can run on its successful record this time round.
