The New Order / Factory Thread

i know new order are basically dead... and well we know about Tony H, but their memory lives on for sure...

i'm sure we had an official thread for NO but I couldn't find one, so i've started this one... what with 'Control' coming out imminently...

Anyway, most pressing news is tonight's show on BBC4 for those in teh UK who have satellite or those who can access it via the interweb

http://www.bbc.co.uk/musictv/factory/

its a full documentary about Factory Records

if its on the beeb (and esepcially BBC4) it is likely to be very good

get there - if you love everything N'Order / Factory obviously

post here any other related comments or New Order / JD related snippets

cheers

Matt

What do you want from me?

MONACO TO REFORM IN OCTOBER
Monaco will reform for one gig on October 28, which is a charity gig for Oxfam. It's called the Oxjam Music Festival. The gig will be at the Manchester Ritz. The lineup is still to be confirmed.

More info can be found on the official website:

Re: The New Order / Factory Thread

Mmmm... yeah, the Factory/NewOrder/Peter Saville/Joy Division/Rob Gretton/Tony Wilson/etc. creative force were easily the most formative thing present in my childhood. Until the early 90's there was little else I paid attention to other than girls.

I mean just take one New Order 12". Let's say, "Fine Time". The WHOLE OBJECT is a carefully constructed work of art. The cover. The high quality inner sleeve. The hidden inscriptions on the inner side of the vinyl. The enigmatic "no name, no marketing" policy still in full-effect. And then the MUSIC: 909s, 303s, the acid house experience mutated and filtered through the New Order perspective all culminating in a big fuck off ending like all of their classic records during the 80s.

I don't expect most people to really understand but for me it's still untouchable stuff. luvluvluluvv

has anyone bought this?

Factory Records Graphic Album

I keep meaning to pick it up...

and I'd totally agree with Scott about the "whole object" being a piece of art... I've even bought 12"-es of New Order's where I didn't really even like the song, or I already had the tracks on the vinyl -> just b/c of the cover

worth every penny.

Re: The New Order / Factory Thread

so - do you get nice full-page presentations of the album covers?

or is it like most of the books/magazines about album covers - where the majority of the images are scaled down tiny?

Re: The New Order / Factory Thread

loads and loads of full page stuff. it's truly beautiful. i recommend the Hardcover. worth the extra money. i bought the softcover so i could cut out some images for framing, it's that nice!
