The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
This movie was awesome. Highly, highly recommended.
Wicked bloody violent sword fights!! |
Re: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
Didn't really care for it, myself. Tried to be too many things simultaneously, IMO.

Re: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
aren't there like 20 of these movies?

Re: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
You're referring to the Beat Takeshi 2004 movie? There are apparently a few older Zatoichi films from the heyday of samurai cinema, though I haven't seen those.
It's a good movie indeed. The comedy moments were strange. The dancing peasants, the neighbours simple son who thinks he's a samurai and runs around naked, the big final dance... pretty nuts. Good though. I'd recommend The Twilight Samurai (http://imdb.com/title/tt0351817/) if you liked this. A more straight drama based movie, but very good. Better than Zatoichi IMO. |
Re: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
If we're referring to the Beat Takeshi film from last year, it was great.

Re: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
yeah, the one from last year. :)

Re: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
yeah i didn't like the new movie. i thought it would have been better, and the blood effects made it really really cheesy.

Re: The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi
I saw that... it was pretty good. My friend who I went with has seen most of the samurai movies that exist in the world, and I haven't, so I can't say, but he seemed to think it was good but not really any better than the old ones.
Speaking of samurai movies... The same dude showed me this movie the other day, the first of the "Hanzo the Razor" series, about a renegade samurai who fights crime WITH HIS PENIS... to the tune of an amazing funk soundtrack. It was unlike anything I have ever seen... it was the exact meeting point of serious japanese cinema and trashy sexploitation. Bizarre, but great in its own strange way. I guess the guy who starred in it was also the original Zatoichi, and the character was created by the same guy who created Lone Wolf and Cub. If you like fucked up dark comedy and/or samurai flicks, check that one out. Link. |
