Howl's Moving Castle
 

I saw this the other day and thought it was great. It's a lot different than Spirited Away, but I think that's a good thing. I had read the book a couple of times before seeing the movie and there are a lot of changes, but I thinks it works out pretty well.

i haven't seen the floating castle but i heard someone in the audience say that this was a prequel to that? was he right?

i like how miyazaki has this tone of somehow not-that-threatening-but-still-serious magic and alternate-world everyday detail in his stuff... it really makes his movies captivating to me, even though they never sound like stories i'd be interested in.

You mean Castle in the Sky? (that's the English title; it's more commonly known as Laputa). No, HMC is not a prequel to that movie. There's a book that's called Castle in the Air that is a sequel to the book version of HMC, but can't really be a sequel to the movie due to the changes from the book.

Haven't seen it yet, but I eagerly await for it to either come to theaters here or (more likely) come out on DVD. But I hear Roger Ebert, a big time Miyazaki fan, was disappointed by the film, so I'm not sure what to expect.

I stopped in a theater and caught the last half of it (our movie was mysteriously full before the start, so we had to wait for the next showing) and thought it was decent. The monsters and vehicles are always a little strange in Miyazaki films but there were some genuine laughs. It did come across a little too warm-hearted to me, though.

I thought it was quite funny and thoroughly enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, there were a few shaky parts.

Its worth seeing in theaters if you can appreciate grand hyper-detailed animation.... which you'd best appreciate.

too warm-hearted? The tone wasn't like Kiki's or Totoro, but no it wasn't Mononoke.... I think it matched Spirited Away. It wasn't saccharine. Come to think of it Love was overstated again. annoying.


I wonder if the spoiler tag still works?
