air - pocket symphony

this was announced whilst the forums were down:

Quote:

French duo Nicholas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunkel aka Air will release the follow-up album to their 2004 hit “Talkie Walkie” on March 6, 2007 through Astralwerks.
The new album entitled “Pocket Symphony” was recorded with producer Nigel Godrich and features guest vocals from Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker and Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy.
The 12-track set features Asian classical instruments like the Koto and the shamisen, which Godin recently learned to play from an Okinawa master musician.
Air will be touring Europe in mid-March and America in May, with festival appearances scheduled for the summer, and more shows throughout the fall and winter.

Good news, this! I'll be interested to hear how they pull off incorporating those ethnic instruments into their chilled style.

I quite enjoy "Talkie Walkie", "Moon Safari" and "Premier Symtomes", especially the latter's jazzy-rock-dance hybrid.
For some reason, i couldn't get into "10,000 Hz Legend".

Yeah a lot of people seem to really hate 10.000 Hz Legend, while I think it's an AMAZING thing to do after the masterpiece that i think Moon Safari is.

when I first heard the album - I absolutely hated it, save for "Radio #1"

but as time progressed, I really started to appreciate it - it really wasn't until around the time of "Talkie Walkie" that I "got" it

Yeah, i probably didn't give it enough time. My first listens weren't good experiences, whereas the other LPs were immediately accessible and caught my ear. It seemed a little too all over the map for me. Then again, you could say that Talkie Walkie is a lil too similar from track to track, so pick yer poison!

ya, i LOVE 10kHz, I think it might be my favorite in fact. Well at least really close with Moon Safari. I just love how they really went out there and challeneged peoples tastes and what is acceptable "pop music" in my eyes... so cool

does anyone else remember when they were called "Air - French Band" (or was it French Band - Air?)

I actually really liked how they included how 'french' they were... you know

I wonder why they dropped it. Or did they only do that in the US? I remember it only being used around the time of Moon Safari
