Re: breaking and entering!!
Hello and welcome!
I never thought the film track was gonna be a banging selection of tracks. It shows a much calmer side to Underworld which i like. Not their fav work of theres that i own but i do like it. Its done to suit the film which ive seen snippets off and it does work well with the movie. |
Re: breaking and entering!!
I love it and think it's awesome. If I wasn't an Underworld fan and saw the film I probably would've bought the soundtrack regardless. Different strokes for different folks.
Edit: Also, welcome. :) |
Re: breaking and entering!!
its just you,i think you should try "transporter 2" i hear that they've got faithless and the dub pistols scoring it !;)

Re: breaking and entering!!
i like it, but its really only the mellow side of uw. its nice for what it is, but its certainly not for someone expecting to hear the typical uw sound.

Re: breaking and entering!!
welcome!
first and foremost, this is a soundtrack. it is also a collaboration with another artist. this is not the same thing as a guest musician. UW collaborated with Gabriel Yared to score for a film. below i've detailed my 5 step plan for enjoying this album: 1. purchase album* 2. contract the flu 3. roll and smoke spliff 4. take 1.5 doses of Nyquil 5. insert disc, press play this works. if this doesn't work, please send me a sample of your weed and i'll test it on my end. thanks. |
Re: breaking and entering!!
I think it's absolutely wonderful. Obviously if you were expecting banging underworld tunes you're gonna be dissapointed but it's a great piece of soothing, atmospheric "ambient" music.

Agreed. This is an album that gets into you slowly. Nice themes, repeated motifs, lots of small surprises. Karl's voice as a lovely instrument (a la "I'm a big sister..." tracks), great guitar bits, even some beats if you listen closely! First listen, i wasn't wowed, either...it sounded too minimal/unfinished. Give it some more spins while relaxed (maybe not drugged up on nyquil), and it'll start surprising you wirth lovely lil things. :) |
Re: breaking and entering!!
Hmmm listened again, at home this time chilled (not driving!),still boring, never really expected banging tunes but didnt expect sub 'boards of canada' like ambient twaddle either!!:(

Re: breaking and entering!!
It strikes me that this album lies more in the vien of clasical than it does electronic. This is the Yared influence obviously, but something I'm sure Underworld were very excited to do. I know it's not minimalism, but it still reminds me of Steve Reich or Phillip Glass.
I highly highly recommend Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians," both as a referrence for how classical music has affected electronic (Kraftwerk were strongly influenced by Reich) and as a stunningly beautiful piece of music. Maybe this would be a way into the album for people who aren't into it at the moment. |
