South Park - The Return of Chef.

Anyone catch the new South Park? Probably the greatest episode they've ever made. So brutally funny, yet so sad.

Would this be Chef's send-off after his sudden and unprecedented bout of sensitivity to the mockery of religion in the show?

Because I reeeeaally want to see that.

Yeah, it's in response to Isaac Hayes' comments and departure. While i agree with the creators' calling him on his hipocracy (e.g. they can make fun of other religions, but not scientology), the send-off Chef got struck me more as mean-spirited than funny.
i don't want to spoil it for you, but i think last season's Scientology episode did a better, more clever job than the premier with Chef leaving.

it also got a little grating to keep hearing Chef's old dialogue spliced together to make it seem like he's saying something new. At first I thought the kids noticed as well and he would turn out to be some Evil Chef robot or something like that but... it wasn't (semi spoiler!!) and the joke stopped being funny by the first act break. at least it's a cartoon so they didn't have to do any digital reconstruction like on the sopranos. ugh.

i don't think they were hiding anything with the old chef sound clips. i think its more of a jab at the religion than issac hayes. i thought it was really funny

The splicing of old Chef clips was meant to show that Scientology had brainwashed him (or rather that "fruity little club," hehehe). Personally, I don't think this episode was so much a jab (or befacing) as some people are saying it is. You have to consider that Isaac Hayes didn't quit the show until right before the repeat of the original South Park episode was to air. I don't think it took him however many months to get mad over it. I think Tom Cruise and his sister (both high ranking Scientologists) pressured Comedy Central not to reair it since M:I 3 is coming out this year (the movie is being released by the same company that owns Comedy Central), and Isaac Hayes was pressured into quitting the show.

Yes, the treatment of Chef was brutal, but none of the characters in the show blamed Chef for what he did, and I suspect Matt and Trey would welcome Isaac back to the show if he were to ever change his mind.
