Help with London...
 

Hey there... I am making my first trip out of the US in a few weeks when I visit London and Edinburgh for a few days each and I need some help figuring out places to visit in my short time abroad.

I am looking for some places to shop for records (mostly techno/house/dance choons) in the London area. I heard about Phonica and Rough Trade, but any other suggestions?

I also plan on visiting The End to see Groove Armada (dj) and Elite Force on April 15 and Fabric on the 21st to see Evil Nine. I suppose I should buy my tickets in advance so I don't miss my opportunity, but when is a good time to show up to avoid lines? I am travelling with 2 women if that will make a difference for me getting in (to the clubs that is). I am from Minneapolis... everything starts and ends earlier here.

if you go nowhere else in london go to Smallfish. the best electronic music shop in London, hands down.

Intoxica on Portobello Road (these four are quite near to each other, though Intoxica has some comically overpriced stuff)
Phonica – 51 Poland Street W1 / Know How Records – 3 Buck Street NW1 / Vinyl Addiction – 6 Inverness Street NW1

There's the old favourite Vinyl Addiction, but there's some good newer ones as well - especially Phonica in Soho and Know How Records in Camden. Phonica is nice inside, they've even got a space for the DJ friends to hang while the DJs get their hit. Phonica is also easy to get to in the West End whereas both Vinyl Addiction and Know How are in Camden, which is kind of annoying to get to for me. But if you're looking for the right vinyl, going to Camden is worth the trek. All are essential for finding that rare

Berwick Street is a must and Smallfish. The others would be bonus. HMV has the best prices on major releases. Phonica is very close to Berwick Street and is the other great electronic music shop.

April 14, Leave Minneapolis.
April 15, Arrive in London, shopping, Groove Armada @ The End, shopping, sightseeing.
April 18, Drive to Edinburgh, climb a hill, see a castle.
April 19, Drive to Inverness, see the Loch Ness Monster, see a castle.
April 20, Return to Edinburgh, do other fun Edinburgh things.
April 21, Drive back to London, shop, Evil Nine @ Fabric.
April 22, Fly back to Minneapolis, Ladytron @ First Ave.

Yeah, this will be a marathon week. It appears that I will be in Edinburgh the nights of April 18 and 20... Let me know what (if anything) is going on those days/nights! It would really fun to see a pro/semipro rugby match if something that is happening?

Ooooo that is so handy to have so many stores on one street! While my friends are off shopping for girl stuff I will be rocking my life away with new rekkids... Thanks for all the info!

Yeah, and the good thing is, Berwick Street is just off Oxford Street so its all close by and you can go for a swift pint in Soho to view your pickings after :)

sadly, selectadisc is no more - at least not in name - stoopidly, i can't remember the new name - it's the name of another store further down berwick st, who look like just to have bought it out and changed nothing
