Freezepop vs. Fischerspooner...
...in the battle of cheezy, yet somehow unbelievably catchy, synthpop dancemusic?
Just discovered the video-gamey joy of "Fancy-Ultra-Fresh" by Freezepop, and the parallels to Fischerspooner are obvious and plentiful: Both have an artsy-fartsy "singer" singing havily-computerized inane lyrics; Both groups feature the staple of synth pop...baselines that are nothing more than single notes played an octave up/down/up/down in sequence (come to think of it, this applies to much trance music, too!); Also, and i think most importantly for this music, the tongue is firmly in cheek. (fisherspooner have claimed more significance to their music, and in fairness, "Odyssey" is pretty damn good, much better than "#1"). Any thoughts on these titans of blippy dance (other than they're all shite, naturally! :p ) Or synth music in general? Holden |
Re: Freezepop vs. Fischerspooner...
Freezepop have been around for ages. Basically some of the members are part of the video game developer called Harmonix, which are responsible for the music games for ps2 called amplitude/frequency/guitar hero.
Whats funny is, one of the freezepop guys is actually the symbion project, komputer kontroller, and DJ HMX - all those monikrs show up on the games i mentioned above. strange how he had to have so many aliases. maybe harmonix wanted you to think you were getting a variety of aritists ;) |
Re: Freezepop vs. Fischerspooner...
i am hooked on the Freezepop track "Read to Rokk" from Guitar Hero. too bad the album version doesn't sound so good.

i like fischerspooner. a lot. and if that's uncool i don't really give a shit.
don't care much for freezepop though. |
Re: Freezepop vs. Fischerspooner...
well - I haven't heard any Freezepop...
but I will definitely give my stamp of approval on Fischerspooner. I honestly don't understand the backlash specifically towards them, while other (lesser) groups/performers garner praise (Tiga, Peaches) sure the first album is a bit juvenile at times... but the appeal to it was the live performance! basically you had to be there to get it... I guess(?) |
