UNDERWORLD - 2005 POLL RESULTS

SUMMARY

As usual, just before Xmas, I posed a series of questions to Underworld Fans and they responded with their votes.

Turnout wasn’t as good as I’d have like but by no means too low to give us some decent results.

The main purpose of the poll was to identify what the Fans favourite Underworld track is, and what their favourite album is.

ABOUT THE VOTES & VOTERS

The average age of Dirty voters in this poll was: 25.27

The average number of posts of Voters on the Dirty Forums at the time of the poll was: 181

31.7% of voters come from the USA, 24.4%, the UK, 9.8% the Netherlands, 7.3% Australia, 4.8 from Canada & Germany, and 17.1% from elsewhere, including Czech Rep, Switzerland, Denmark & Japan.

Oddly enough 14% of all voters are called Matt, with a further 7.3% called Steve(n)

All but one voter was female - thanks Janie.

In the main vote a total of 83 different tracks were voted for.

70.73% of all voters voted for the top track somewhere in their list of 10.

Two Tracks only polled 1 vote, in position 10.

One track polled an average of 15 points, meaning it was voted for once only but in top position

The Winning Track scored an average of 10.8 out of 15 points (see points allocations below)

1ST

JUANITA / KITELESS / TO DREAM OF LOVE

This Second Toughest In The Infants opening track finished second last year and has climbed up to the top spot with 70.73% of all voters voting for it.

Almost a quarter of all voters put it as their favourite track. Juanita, with 312 points accrued 11.8% of the total number available. Almost all votes polled for this track were in the top three on voters lists.

2nd

DIRTY EPIC

The classic LP track is perhaps confused with Dirty & Dirty Guitar, as we had votes for these two separately, but it’s the vocal version of this that gets the big votes, and has climbed up from 7th last year to second position. Its finished a long way behind J/K/TDOL, with 192 points, but its still an impressive showing with the top two tracks not being single releases. 58.5% of all voters put this one on their form. 15% sticking it at the top of their pile…

3rd

BANSTYLE / SAPPYS CURRY

Another non-single finishes in third place, and joins its STITI album counterpart in the top 3. Non moving from last year’s poll, this track scored 142 points, with 41% of voters plumbing for this two part track, and based upon average points scored would be placed higher than Dirty Epic!

4th

JUMBO

Another climber from last year, Jumbo climbs up four from 8th, and finishes just one point behind Banstyle, with a better average than both second and third placed tracks… It’s also the first single in list.

5th

COWGIRL

An old favourite never dies and last years winner slips to 5th spot, perhaps due to negative feedback recently on the Dirty album eliminators, but this still polled a credible 39% of all voters votes.

6th

PEARLS GIRL

Another non mover, last years 6th stays in the top ten, with little effort. Its unsurprising that this single, which is both popular live and commercially, remains popular with Dirty voters…

7th

LUETIN

Hidden AHDO Album favourite has climbed 6 places this time around, and perhaps will encourage UW to revive it more often, as 44% of fans put this down in their lists (and none dislike it! – see worst tracks below). Also a popular choice for remixing, this track is a real grower, and perhaps a missed opportunity from the 4th album.

DARK TRAIN (nu train)

This live favourite is still popular with the fans, and despite slipping a couple of places from 4th last year its still placed somewhere in 46% of voters lists. (Votes for Nu Train a new live version were also included here).

CUPS

More votes for another non album track, slipping slightly from last year’s 5th, this remains in the top 10 thanks mainly to a high vote average.

BORN SLIPPY (NUXX)

The perennial favourite and all time Underworld anthem / albatross is still as popular as ever, here slipping just one spot, it has affection to many a fan due to it being one of the reasons people got into UW. Will it stick around next year, most likely…
