Same two set setlist as most of the tour...but experiencing it live, Rick and Karl are still masters of the set flow. Great buildup of energy, smooth transitions, total command.
Really enjoy the addition of growly bass and almost a dubstep outtro to Push Upstairs. Cowgirl also benefits from some well places drops and snarl to the synth. Tin There just about decimated the place, good timing for the set break. For me, the biggest surprise was how well S.T.A.R. rocks and grooves. Not a fan of the Drift versions, but it's a banger live. Oh, and of course Denver Luna is custom made for this town. Fantastic gig, it's been a long while for me, and though UW and I have aged, the tracks are timeless. |

What a great set. As one born out of due time I never had the chance to see them improvise, but if that was the only Underworld set I ever saw, I'd be satisfied. Scratched every itch.
I could echo all said above - it felt like I had never really heard Push Upstairs until I heard that version - and add that all the little ways they've lifted songs like Dark Train and Juanita over the last few years really pay off live. Arpeggio12 into Moaner was a bit of genius. Absolutely absurd that they waited nearly three decades to make Tin There a regular part of the set. That might never be beat. Flooding the stage with fog so the only thing available was the sound was such a great touch, as was the way Karl held back during the first set then owned the stage in the second. Visually strong production, subtle, not wild like the 90s tomato visuals but tailored and diverse. Only missing Rez, but the setlist was so full it took me hours to notice. Maybe they could squeeze in three minutes of it as an intro to NUXX? I mean, what am I doing asking for more? Masterful. I was reminded especially of the 2010 Barking tour when their setlist became static and a good bit more engineered, with more focus on the production and lightshow, and delivering a polished performance - but it didn't feel like them back then. Like Underworld trying something unnatural to them. This setlist felt like them. This felt like a band that knows itself and wants to sound like itself in the best way possible. A band with 35 years of aged like wine experience moving crowds. Maybe this ends up one of their last sets in the states like this, but what a sendoff. What do we do to make them release a full recording? Letter writing campaign? |
