Where's Bill? Jeff Bridges? I'm missing something...

It looks pretty fun -- people are starting to out Wes-Anderson, Wes Anderson.

Love that site.

I'm interested in seeing this one. I never saw Mr. Jealousy but I did enjoy Kicking and Screaming.

Today Noah Baumbach was on the NPR program Fresh Air for the second half of the program.

Mr. Jealousy was OK. Baumbah narrated it which gave it a note of desperation to me... like he made Kicking and Screaming when he was supposed to but now he's clearly too old but damn if he didn't make another movie almost just like it (but worse). The pretension starts here in my opinion. I'm looking forward to The Squid and the Whale but fear it suffer from being overly autobiographical. Who knows though, maybe i'm still just a bit mad at him for that Life Aquatic commentary track.

I hold both Noah Baumbach and Wes Anderson responsible for the Life Aquatic commentary.

After listening to the interview on NPR it's hard not to view Baumbach as a youngish/mid 30's pompus snob. Couple him with the new and improved Wes Anderson and we have.....well...we have two smart, talented guys, who have lost the thread.

Re: The Squid and the Whale.

Saw this tonight with Jeff Daniels in attendance. His Q&A afterward was very interesting (will edit this post with a link to detailed notes after I write them up)... the movie is very good. It is very autobiographical but for me only the good things about that showed up in the movie rather than the bad things. It's charming and funny while being painful and depressing...
it IS pretty Anderson-esque in subject matter and tone but the composition is not nearly so formal and there's more there with the character work for me... I liked this more than Life Aquatic right away.

so yeah, good movie. more later...

EDIT: finally wrote up my full-on notes with the Q&A coverage of Jeff Daniels. read it HERE

I'm still waiting to see this. It sounds autobiographical from every interview I've read and heard with Mr. Baumbach.

Nice to see this movie getting attention. The director is Norwegian, and has done some great films here in Norway, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he moves on the the american market. It seems to have gotten some good reviews, so it's looking ggod.
