It was supposed to be all for bin Laden and his network of bitches but that got all jacked up when the US got scared of Iraq. As for the what for, well there's all that Lithium and other minerals to start putting a claim on.

well, there is the argument along the lines of stopping terrorist training camps from operating freely, thus preventing attacks like july 7th.

it may have worked in afghanistan: but then again, it's merely displaced the operation to countries like somalia where 'the west' has been burned before and therefore won't even think of going near.

of course, it's now got us caught up with a war against the taliban, rather than al-qaida, who must be laughing their arses off.

it was never about the afghans - the poor fuckers have been caught between superpowers and extremists for decades now. i don't think that 'fuck them' is really the way to go...
