Re: the big apple
Go to a Rangers ice hockey game at madison sq. garden. Go sit down by the ice before the game starts!
Check out greenwich village, its full of cool little restaurants like The Ear. Visit the brooklyn brewery (tho ive heard rumours its moved...) if not then at least drink a lot of their beer and / or visit one of the Heartland Brewery bars (empire state building / union sq for example). Go to a flea market (like Hells Kitchen or the indoor one in Chelsea), its full of weird stuff and weird people. Take the ferry to staten island (and come straight back!) its not worth going to Liberty Island unless you can go in the statue (not sure if theyve reopened it yet). Go to the DailySHow and Colbert report websites and try to get into the audience! its free but you have to take what you can and hope for the best. I went to both shows (Thanks to TaBanger!) and it was great. and lastly try and meet up with Jason Roth. That guy is a legend. okay thats all i can think of now. that last one is optional btw ;) |
Re: the big apple
Have the milk-braised pork in The Spotted Pig, yum.
http://www.thespottedpig.com/ ...not forgetting the carrots roasted with garlic and thyme. Also MoMA, Top of the Rock & Empire State, Apple Store, and make your own Muppet at FAO Schwarz. http://www.fao.com/whatnots/index.jsp Who doesn't want their own Muppet? |
Re: the big apple
I am a bit surprisingly shocked yet again. Are you a travel agent?

Helicopter ride is a must, to appreciate the scale of everything.
Is Mars 2112 restaurant still on Times Sq? If so, they do (did) great food. Don't climb up inside the statue of liberty if either of you is claustrophobic! |
Re: the big apple
dont do anything just sit around like its any other city.
im going there mid december and i'm just going to ride the ditmars train all night long and come back |
Re: the big apple
sadly, mrs //\/\/ hates flying AND is claustrophobic - it's going to be enough of a struggle to get her up a skyscraper!

Re: the big apple
It's cliche, i know, but if you can get the Mrs. to go to the observation deck on the Empire State Building, you'll get breathtaking views of the immensity of the city, minus the bustle at ground level.
A stroll through Central Park is lovely, too, if only as a nature break from the city. |
Re: the big apple
or go to the observation deck on the Rockefeller building and you will be able to actually see the Empire State Building too :)
New York is awesome in any case, I'm sure you'll have a great time. And as Stimpee said, no visit to NYC is complete without meeting the legendary mr J. Roth I made a little blog during me and Stimpee's stay in NY back in '07 which you can still find here: http://snakedogman.vox.com/ maybe it will give some inspiration for things to do :) |
