Art/jazz - Natura Cinematica - shameless plug.
 

...I've been pretty busy getting more and more involved with doing the photography and design for a downtempo jazz/electronic band/art project call Natura Cinematica. Things are starting to take shape, the album is being mastered, the cd cover is done with an 8-page booklet, there'll be a digital version with a pdf artwork download.

I'm rather bemused that I've actually been able to design an album!

Their facebook page shows how the process is developing, and they now have a reverbnation presence http://www.reverbnation.com/naturacinematica if you'd care to take a look.

It's a zero-budget, zero-experience project (apart from the musicians, who seem very experienced!); but for getting this 'out there', we're learning all the time - it's good fun and inspiring every step! :)

iphone4 photo taken almost a year ago, in the wood, 10 seconds from my door. processed using iphone apps, then given over to photoshop for the text and layout.

the album itself has been mastered and is now at 'the makers' where a physical product is being put together. as well as the cd, there's an 8-page booklet of imagery that they asked me to put together - i can't believe that there'll soon be a cd designed by me! :)

as well as physical sales, the album's being released as a download package through bandcamp as this allows a low price to be attached, though people are welcome to pay what they like beyond that. the full album will have a pdf booklet and bonus track.

the music? though steeped in jazz, there's quite a lot of electronica coming through - it's pretty easy-going, at times soundtracky - not half bad!

live shows will be coming late in the summer, for which I'm producing a series of animations to be projected behind the band, so I'm busy slaving over a (very hot) laptop which seems to be rendering most hours of the day and night :eek:

500 copies of the album arrived on the bands' doorstep today. It's been like waiting for a baby to be born. Happily, all the notes are in the right place and order, and the pictures, I'm told, look great.

I've now fulfilled an idle childhood doodling ambition by having an album that I've designed.

Now to sell the other 499 copies ;)
