New Superman Returns trailer

Kevin Spacey looks down right diabolic as Luthor. So far, looks good.

Looks good and another kudos for Spacey as the villian. Hopefully will go over the top in quite a few places throughout the film. Though I must admit I do have a soft spot in my heart for good old Gene Hackman.

I guess I'm gonna be checking it out out of boredom and curiosity, and I won't have to pay either so it will no skin off my back.

Just a couple hours of my day wasted.

yep - certainly looking forward to this....

look up in the sky....

nice tag line

if this is as good as Batman Returns, i mean begins ;) then it should rock...

and other Superman news is that they are releasing the original Richard Donner Cut of Superman II on DVD later this year....rather than the suipposedly 'not as good' version that came out....

so does this mean, that eventually
they're going to remake superman 2 also?

this is what i mean by all these remakes/rehashes..
and no i didn't like 'batman begins' at all either....
it wasn't even close to the original batman movie
(although most of the sequels after were pretty bad also)..

the list goes on this year (and last year too):
the pink panther
miami vice
poseidon
the omen
the hills have eyes

and of course more sequels:
xmen 3
new bond movie
fast and furious 3
clerks 2
pirates of the caribbean 2
etc..

c'mon hollywood,
move on already..

Out of curiosity -1 what didn't you like about Batman Begins?

Also, I left miami vice on there as it's the one remake I'm looking forward to purely for the Michael Mann factor. There will probably be a thin plot at best. But just a lot of good Michael Mann constructed action and mellow drama.

well, with one of the problems with the whole batman
series, was lack of continuity with the role of batman..

ultimately christian bale (although i liked him
in other roles) didn't live up to playing batman...
and as for the other major actors in the movie
michael caine as alfred was ok, the
others didn't seem to fit either,
morgan freeman, rutger hauer, liam neeson,
in their respective parts and what was katie
holmes doing there?

i think the plot of revisitting batmans beginning
was a poor choice to begin with, maybe another
topic or era would have made a difference..

the scarecrow was one of the poorest choices
for a villian also..not scary in my opinion..

the batmobile, and other bat-items weren't
up to par....maybe i'm too ingrained with
the earlier original vision of the batman era
to move on...

where does this leave the batman franchise?,
i see they tied the ending to have continuity
with the current series...but that might have
been tacked on...

sorry, if they wanted to move forward with
this franchise they should have done so,
but instead they looked back...

It seemed to follow the standard Hollywood formula of a superhero franchise film most definently. That aside I did enjoy the supporting cast around Christian Bale with the exception of Katie Holmes.

For myself I enjoyed the a film a great deal and when comparing it to the Spiderman franchise I would choose Batman.

I also have to agree with you on the Bat mobile in thinking, what the hell is this when I first saw it on screen. It seemed like something dreamt up and put in there for the crowd that drives Hummers and SUVs. I always liked the Batmobile from Burton's film.

Perhaps the one thing that really stuck out in my mind after my initial viewing of the film was that, even though it's a big studio franchise film with action and explosions and what not, the film felt more like a drama in places exploring the character of Bruce Wayne who has this alter ego and that was something that I really enjoyed. Where as with Spiderman I felt like everything was paper thin and like watching a video game.

Re: New Superman Returns trailer

Remember, these are adaptations of the original materials, and there have been like 70-80 years of Batman (and Superman) stories to work from with their own fluxuations in continuity, so I find all the fuss about the lack of continuity between the comics and the movie to be minimal. And yes, I loved Batman Begins. Christian Bale was a perfect choice for a young Batman (although his Batman voice isn't wonderful), and Michael Caine made Alfred an interesting character. Actually, I found Caine's Alfred to be closer to the Alfred in the 90s animated series, who came back with a few good zingers here and there. Katie Holmes, yeah, agreed. Liam Neeson was a great choice for his part, imo, and again I'm harkening back to the 90s animated series, which I consider the pinnacle of Batman TV/film adaptations.

Now, I'm curious to this new Superman movie. I'm not sure about the actor playing him nor am I sure about Lois having a son. But I'll give it a chance since for the most part it looks well done.
