chat rooms?

I've been looking for good chat rooms lately. I remember back at the turn of the century they were all the rage but now it seems those either got disbanded or have become forgotten.

I'm looking for a good chat room to talk music with people, music recording would be nice to talk about too.

Thanks for any input,

caprice

We have a 'Shoutbox' over on dirtyradio...

http://dirtyradio.org/listen

I suppose its more like a sleeker version of a chat room, but it allows people to shout out and say what they think about whats playing etc.. People dont have serious conversations about music on it though.

For me, chat rooms (and forums) became too 'geeky' and were left behind when internet came to the masses. Social networks (in particular Facebook) seem to be a much more intergrated solution for people to stay in touch, chat live to an audience and share their life.

that is so interesting to me for some reason. Chat rooms do have a certain anonymity about them that i miss. With facebook/myspace too much information must be surrendered in order to be in the social network.

thank you! hope to do some "shouting" sometime!

We had an IRC chatroom once upon a time. but when the dirty.org domain got sold for dirty porn money it disappeared.

Any demand for a chat room again?

Well, i've found a solution and i'll be posting something here soon. Keep eyes peeled. It wont be a web browser based solution, but it will have offline messages (catch up on missed conversations when you log in), topics, file transfer. It'll mean a download/install but I think its the best solution at the moment.

Hey, im quoting myself. how about that.

Anyway, ran into some problems with the group chat not working on the latest version. Am experimenting for ways round this. Just an FYI.

Was looking at something that runs outside the browser. But IRC was so great that it ran in and out of the browser. The only problem is it doesnt have offline messages so you miss things when you shutdown/logoff. I guess Meebo will run in the browser (you can pop it out but its still the browser). There is also Meebone (AIR version) but i'll figure it all out soon.
