Dirty Redesign

Nice and Clean. Love it.

There's nothing quite like clean dirtiness.

Nice, overdue change...the Barking design lasted a good 5 years.
Seeing the dubno and Stiti art with the announcement note reminds me, 2016 is 20 years on from Stiti...new box set?

Re: Dirty Redesign

Cool but the joy is gone so it seems, it looks a bit soulless.

Re: Dirty Redesign

I think it's the mix of old layout with the stark greyness of the banner. I think the direction of the redesign suits the current mode the band is in.

@holden There's a STITI remaster coming according to the dubno announcement, and supposedly all the other ones too. When, though? who knows....

PS. I like the dirty radio integration into the front page.

Forums will also get a makeover. Well, more than a makeover. Lets see.

Re: Dirty Redesign

more than a makeover? are you going as far as a platform change from vbulletin? not that there's anything wrong with it or anything...

I even noticed Beaucoup Fish era art, so I'm not alarmed yet.

Re: Dirty Redesign

I can't access the site at all from my mobile browers anymore.

I am using Internet Explorer on Windows phone.

However, the problem i am getting is that the certificates for this site:
borndirty.org

and the forums

return errors, where the security certificates have expired.

What version of IE and Windows Phone?

And can you post a screenshot of the exact error you're receiving? Expired certificate should not be the error.

i'm not worried if you can't get it working for my phone.

it's an old windows 7.8 version, with IE (no version) based on IE9.

i just wonder if anyone else got this message.

the site worked fine until a few months ago. i tried clearing cookies, etc.
there are no other browsers for windows phone. they are all just skins
using the same engine.

https://i.imgur.com/CKY00hO.jpg

i can click through this, and the site works, but every single link, and post causes
the error message to come up.

Re: Dirty Redesign

I placed the whole site under HTTPS a few months ago, which is why it affects every page.

The reason why you're getting warnings is because your Windows Phone 7 doesn't include the CA that I used in its trusted root store. You can install the CA root certificate on your phone and that will fix the errors.

You might be able to install it by simply visiting this URL with your phone:

https://www.startssl.com/certs/ca.crt

When it prompts you for whether you want to install the certificate, go ahead and allow it.

However, that might not work. If it doesn't, then just download the above link on your computer. Change the name of the resulting file from ca.crt to ca.cer. Then, e-mail the ca.cer file to yourself. Open the e-mail attachment on your phone. When you do, it will prompt you to install the certificate.

that did the trick. thanks for your solution.

Click-bait title... I came here expecting to see some screen caps or layout concepts of the redesign.

Boo, back-end deployment stuff, booooo! I want my money back, boooo!

Re: Dirty Redesign

side note:

Some of the original vBulletin developers have moved on from that forum software and are working on a new board/forum software for websites, under the name the XenForo Ltd.

It looks to be both user-friendly and modern, and be worth considering with the site redesign and updates: https://xenforo.com/.

And if you need forum consulting, Jacob Bunce (jakeman) is one of those developers, and though he is assisting XenForo as a side-job to his profession, he is incredibly helpful and provides a lot of information, if needed, as an interest/hobby/background expertise.

Also, I can provide any assistance as I've deployed several websites, UX/UI and graphic designs for the my current employer, the California State Legislature. (I'm looking for a career and job shift anyway, and would like to contribute any way I can)

Re: Dirty Redesign

i'm getting a certificate expired message on chrome for every link and page on the forums:

This server could not prove that it is www.borndirty.org; its security certificate expired yesterday. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Your computer's clock is currently set to Saturday, December 31, 2016. Does that look right? If not, you should correct your system's clock and then refresh this page.

Will this be a future issue?

For some reason, I can't access the website with my phone anymore.
(windows explorer browser, windows phone)..

I tried reinstalling the certificate from the previous post, but that didn't help.

Is there a new certificate I have to install? or just check the site from
a pc from here on out.

Re: Dirty Redesign

Yeah, using a different cert provider now. Are the details on your phone still the same? Are you getting the warning error message you posted earlier?

Can you try visiting this site, and see if you get the same error as when you visit Born Dirty?

https://helloworld.letsencrypt.org/

Edit: You can try installing the root certificate on your phone, as before. You can download it here:

https://ssl-tools.net/subjects/6ff46...3d472c1d8a2fa6

Use the one that has the fingerprint "dac9*024f*54d8*f6df*9493*5fb1*7326*38ca*6ad7*7c13 " and click the PEM link to download it. You may be able to download and install it directly on your phone using that link. If not, then you can download it on your computer, rename it, and e-mail it to yourself, as explained last time.

Good job on the rework. Like the graphics.

I have to tweak it though, i use a dark theme in chrome,
and now when a topic has a new reply, the quote mark doesn't
change color. I only check a few of them anyways, so it's not that big a deal.

Re: Dirty Redesign

I like it, but i find the fonts much harder to read. messes with my eyes a bit. for my money, i think the sans-serif fonts are much easier to read in this format.

I must also agree that this font is a bit thin for forum reading.

ah yeah, its the thinness. definitely not a 'reading' font. more of a title font.
