Man, I wish they would offer downloads of this stuff. I f'n hate streaming. Yeah rip it and be stuck with some 96-128kbps crap rip. Hell, I'd pay for this stuff.

Yeah, it's a shame it's on Mixcloud. The streaming quality is so low.
Although we were pretty sure on the Pens name for the techno section, it's nice to have confirmation on it from Rick. Also nice to see that we're still getting Thursday releases, even if Drift is on hiatus. |
Re: 1998 Rehearsal Romford release!
Great stuff! This is what should have been on the Beaucoup boxset instead of all those terrible remixes.

Re: 1998 Rehearsal Romford release!
Um. Which remixes were terrible? Maybe like 2 of the KoS mixes but other than that they were classix

Totally agree. I also really liked hearing those unreleased mixes of 'Bruce Lee' sure, they didn't collect all of the remixes, but I think it might've gotten a bit too repetitive |

Coincidentally yesterday I was listening to the 1998 Beaucoup Fish "test drive" show at the Mayan in Los Angeles (my first UW show). This rehearsal is meant to be from late 1998 and that show was in November. Really nice to have this companion to the live bootleg. I'd kill for a soundboard recording of that show. |
Re: 1998 Rehearsal Romford release!
I haven't listened to Beaucoup Fish-era live gigs for awhile. It's still my favorite studio album. Glad to hear a new rehearsal gig with tracks and improv snippets that bring back great memories.
Because I'm a fan of this period ( got into Underworld in late 90's), I'm certainly biased for the remixes of that album. But I feel like remixes used to stretch tracks into new realms by building on their elements, rather than being a simple sample on top if a producer's crap track ( imho, the recent state). I wonder, had I discovered the band in 2016, would I love the recent remixes and dislike the older style? Still, I find most of the BF remixes to be well-crafted. Having so many versions on the box set might be a little much...a live improv gig like this would have been cool. Still, thanks, UW, for the gift of this recording! I'll rip it like it's 1998 again |
