Underworld/Björk 1994
Found a link to a Danish tv programme 'Technomania' from 1996 which contains a short clip (approximately 1 minute) from Underworld's gig at the Roskilde Festival 1994, where Björk joined them on stage, performing Human Behaviour (starts at about 17m into the programme). This is a 700 Mb file (split in two), meaning not everyone would consider it worth downloading ;) There are a few other interview excerpts with Karl and Rick elsewhere.
There's also a clip from the Orb's performance at Copenhagen Water Festival (which made it to the Live 93 album). It's vhs quality and the sound a bit out of sync. Link: http://www.housemusik.dk/forum/showthread.php?t=12571 Go to the last message (#22) and download part 1 + 2 :) EDIT: The part with the short clip can also be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyvGCY40ZSY (at 7m40s) as well as the other parts.. |
Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
wow, that's great.
i wonder how they see each other today and more importantly if doing that sort of thing is even *possible* these days. god, imagine a collaboration. i'd probably die. |
Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
thanks for the link

Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
I might have to get Sony Vegas going & see if I can cut out the Underworld-only portion of it.
On the other hand - it finally solved the mystery I've been looking into, with regards to what year the Underworld / Björk thing happened. I could only remember the '96 & 2000 gig, but was lost remembering what the third year was. And it didn't help that the Roskilde Festival site has been redone & they're only now starting to add the previous years' lineups again  EDIT: Oh dear, looking at the friday night lineup in 1994: Saint Etienne, Björk, Underworld & Orbital - with Derrick May hitting the decks in between! |
Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
wow
I actually didn't know that they EVER played live together... when did it happen in 96 or 00? I would've thought that I would have heard at least about the 00 one.... (and that there would be bootlegs of the 2000 show... if it happened) |

while at this gig nelllie hooper bjork, massive attack and whoever elses producer tried to get on stage with them and get involved on the mixing board, one of the underworld crew shouted at him to get off the stage to which he replied "i'm nellie hooper, bjorks producer,i'm gonna sort out her vocal sound" to which came the reply "i don't care if you're nellie the fucking elephant get off the fucking stage"! cue,one small greek dj leaving by side of stage.:o or so i'm told.

I've been searching for this particular gig for ten years or so, so it's really great to finally get some material... even if a bit limited :) |
Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
As a service for those who can't stand the desynced audio & can't be bothered to download the whole thing, I present the goodies:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX2EDuYvn3g As mentioned in the video remarks, there are bits of Underworld spread throughout the whole video and when I find the time, I'll put the whole lot together in a single video. The same thing goes for some of the other artists in the video :) One of the more interesting bits is Karl talking about a planned event that had been cancelled, which apparently would include 'their' Soundfield Soundsystem(?!) as well as Kraftwerk and Megadog. |

this was the name used for an early early UW live show, well... I guess it technically wasn't "their" show, more of a collaboration between several different dj's, artists, and musicians where they did a massive live jam that lasted something like 14 hours. And I think they had quadraphonic speakers set up as well (remember, this is pre- digital 5.1 surround blah blah) I'm pretty sure it was done at Glastonbury, somewhere between 1992-1995 I wouldn't know for sure, as I hadn't even heard of Underworld at that time, and I didn't live in the Uk |
Re: Underworld/Björk 1994

experimental sound field info edit: John Newsham is still with UW on their tours and is the super sound master you all praise for the fantastic live sound in the reviews we read here. And also he is behind Function One, the builder of the speakers UW uses. He's the friendly bloke with the reading glasses behind the mixingdesk you sure will have noticed during concerts. |
Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
Read the whole article where that pic is from:
http://www.pooterland.com/index2/lig...ieldreport.jpg John first met them as Freur in 1984. 24 years and counting. Does anyone know how long Haydn Cruickshank's been working with them? He's listed in the Everything Everything credits, so that's at least 10 years. |
Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
I realise I'm resurrecting an old thread, but in case anyone's interested, the whole Technomania documentary with english subtitles is on YouTube:

Re: Underworld/Björk 1994
Man, I've been trying to hunt down those two Underworld Dub mixes of Human Behaviour in FLAC.
I found a bunch of Underworld/Lemon Interrupt/Steppin' Razor remixes, most in FLAC |
