Hail Shearer

I'm still thinking this is an Aprils fools day joke. But why now with 8 games left with three matches that on paper look impossible to win? [Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa]

he's got nothing to lose and everything to gain...

Re: Hail Shearer

29 points from 30 matches. looking at how many points you need to stay up its usually between 35 and 42 points. So, you could say winning 2 matches might be enough. Win 2 and draw 4 and lose 2 and theyre probably safe.

I thought it was an april fool also. Shearer has been doing his badges, and i thought he wasnt keen on Mike Ashley either. He was assistent coach for a short while and can certainly fire up the players im sure. Lets see if it makes a blind bit of difference!

I look forward to Sheffield Wednesday playing Newcastle next season if not! :D

can someone rename this thread FAIL Shearer when he's manager of a Championship side? :p

Re: Hail Shearer

Ha this is the first ive heard of it and i always knew it was going to happen... even to think they have another manager, they must be setting records for the biggest turnover of managers in the world by now. Been a fan since i was 9, Tino Asprilla was knockin balls all over the gaf with his rubber legs, Ginola maintaining his beautiful hair, Ferdinand and his beautiful forehead, Beardsley and his beautiful chin....

..in a way, since 1995/96 they have become a hard team to get reved up about as a fan because they were always so mid table after Keegan left.. and only now, when the cards are on the table and its do or die am i really feeling the fire burn again!

Just hope they can do it, it's bizaar seeing them so low down the table so often, truly a great team at the mercy of its owners and management..

absolutely. doubtless he'll be bleating in the press before too long...

the sun, probably. they had a projection of us going down based on predicting results of the teams around us - but totally omitting blackburn somehow? i'm not sure 2 wins alone will be enough, stimps; but i reckon we've got more chance of staying up than we had 2 days ago.

matt - he's said he's only there til the end of the season, so save it - he turned you down; one day you might get over it

lol - i'd like him to do well, seriously - fact is he's got a hard job on his hands, tbh he'd do us a favour if he can beat the Scousers, and even Chels... i hope they do stay up... Middlesbrough are a much less of a loss to the premiership...

seriously though, you think they won't try and keep him if they stay up (or even if they go down?) having said yes now, means he's in the job

Joe Kinnear was only 'supposed' to be there for 6 games... look what happened - Kinnear won't be back...

Shearer is waiting to see what happens... its a testing ground for him...

thought the toon played well. unlucky with the disallowed goal (clearance over the line by (c)ashley cole)... key matches v hull / middlesbrough. if they win those and get a point or two elsewhere they'll scrape it.

Thats true.. tho i think Newcastle have the better matches by far, Hull will really need to pull a shocker now. At least Newc can maybe use this momentum and win one more..

Re: Hail Shearer

i'm not sure 'away to bolton' will be striking that much fear into hull hearts - they were described as 'disinterested' against s********d at the weekend, so anything's possible. the best thing for us is that it's back in our hands, brian...

hmm; a win for us tomorrow would put us a point ahead of the mackems before they play pompey. which would put them under a bit of a sweat.

of course, we have to actually win that game first!

sadly Fulham has a lot to play for these next two weeks. I don't anticipate anything more than a rough game for Newc.

Everyone has a lot to play for these days, europe, the league title, staying up.... there are maybe 6 teams out of twenty who really dont have something important to win for at the moment...

..so i mean, its really just down to the day.

Very true. But its times like this where certain matchups can swing the way of the underdog under certain circumstances. Just ask Hull City in a week after Man U. takes the title this weekend. How many starters will touch the field for that game?

Dirty0900 05-15-2009 03:05 PM

Re: Hail Shearer

Man U need a point to win so unless Arsenal pull off a miracle, utd will put out a weak team against Hull which is the last game of the season.

Newcastle really need to win tomorrow to help themselves and not rely on others.

I question that to be honest. is it not tradition that the team that performs on the day of the award ceremony (last day??) is presented the trophy. Thus i cannot see the key players being left out for the whole game since they will surely want to lift the trophy themselves, also i cant imagine Ferguson sittin back and letting his team risk a loss on the last day of the season.

Will they be presented the trophy at old trafford if they win the arsenal match or will not wait till the last day of the season to present it in respect of the other games left to be played?and thus they get it at the hull game?

thats if they win, i would love Liverpool to do a shocker of some sort! haha

Upcoming Champion's League final in 2 weeks. Why would ManU risk having some key players hurt for what amounts to a nothing game (for United) against Hull?

he hasnt had his heart in the game since he left the pool.... he just doest fit in anywhere else... and not even in liverpool now.

Re: Hail Shearer

this is how i see the final games of the season going:

Hull will fail to beat Man United - most likely be a draw
Newcastle however will fail to beat Villa away, and will go down as a result

i actually think whatever Hull do, win, lose or draw will be equalled by Newcastle and sadly for them they will go down.

Beating Middlesboro is one thing, but losing at home to Fulham is another and sadly that's the route of the problem - not enough passion remains

i'd prefer to see Hull go because they are shite too, but a season in the Championship might just do NUFC a bit of good

just my opinion, mind

I've said this too, they do need a clearout, from boardroom to pitch. Fulham were by far the better team at the weekend, I've enjoyed watching them immensely this season, hope they continue it and win more away games next season.

Sorry Geordies, you'll be back.
The Championship is a great league, I wish we were still in it.
