the Prodigy
album art - Click Can't wait for the "Invaders Must Die" LP... Omen and the title track are both pretty fucking catchy so far....overall it's sounding much like the old "Experience" cd mixed with some of the best elements of "Always Outnumbered". Some of their best stuff since Jilted for sure.:) Here's OMEN: "the Prodigy - OMEN(radio 1 rip)" http://rapidshare.com/files/18265328..._rip_.mp3.html http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BW06B3M0 Video for the title track (IMD): http://media.imeem.com/pl/EtHAklSeDo |

Re: the Prodigy
This ain't too bad, to be honest.
|
Re: the Prodigy
Yeah, "Omen" definitely recalls the early days. The squeaky line reminds me of "Jericho" or some other tracks from Experience, and Keith's vocal is kind of like Jilted Generation trax.
It's catchy. A little dated, but still, decent. |
Re: the Prodigy
Here's the music video for Omen complete with requisite demonic child and evil imagery....pretty crazy shit.
Omen vid (Flash player file): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JSZG98U8 and here's an mp3 rip of the music video audio fom Omen...much better quality audio file than the radio rip: http://www.sendspace.com/file/zp6izo |
Re: the Prodigy
I am pleasantly suplised - Prodigy have lost a lot of credibility with me, but i am interested to hear the album in full and see if they have gone back in the direction they were good at...
So far though, the only grumble i have is that some of it sounds very "pendulum" and i hate them.. ugghh. |
Re: the Prodigy
I too will say they have lost a lot of credibility with me, but Omen's not bad...
|
Re: the Prodigy
hahaha
they're so goofy |
Re: the Prodigy
i was just thinking that what this forum needs is a mongoose injection of prodigy fapping. and here it is! well, prodigy have indeed lost their credibility with their last amateurish album but i'll give this new stuff a listen. it wasnt all bad.

Re: the Prodigy
the beat sounds a bit dated, though not necessarily in a bad way.
but what on earth is up with that horrible synth/pseudo-guitar-riff that kicks in at 0:40? jesus. and those vocals could come from one of those angry-looking, but harmless indie bands. i can also imagine avril lavigne singing that "the writings on the waaahaalll" part. damn, even i remember the time when the prodigy used to scare people... you know what's scary? the Zimmer's cover of "Firestarter"... |
Re: the Prodigy
I saw the single on tv yesterday, it's horrible.
|
Re: the Prodigy
The beat is going to sound dated to us and fresh and original to someone who didn't listen to their earlier stuff or anything else from 15+ years ago in hip hop/electronic.

Re: the Prodigy
hmm... you know
my expectations - couldn't possibly get any lower I mean, while I liked a fair portion of AONO... a lot of it was inexcusably bad and I HATED all of the tracks that came out after AONO ('Who The Fuk Is Eddy Cochran" "The Shadow" etc) buuuut I am actually kind of digging this song I'm just hoping that it carries a lot more Ooomph on the album only downside - is that it sort of sounds like what would happen if... hm... I guess if The Prodigy did nothing after "Experience" then suddenly came back out of nowhere |

but someone who has never listened to any music will also think the Hamsterdance is the greatest shit ever, if he hears it for the first time. |
Re: the Prodigy

There are certainly large portions of AONO, FOTL, heck, even MFTJG worth forgetting, anyway! Since, like many others caught in the failed electronica revolution of 1997, i was introduced to the Prodge through FOTL. SO, for me, hearing the squeaky, hyperfrenetic acid rave of the Experience is unnerving. Similarly, the farty-basslines and faux-rock of AONO took some getting used to. Yeah, they're no longer "dangerous" or even innovators, but i generally find more to like than dislike on their records, after awhile. Here's hoping the same for "Invaders" |
Re: the Prodigy
Well, the albums leaked, and I've got to admit it's the best most awesome album I've heard for ages :) It's track after track of stupid grin-inducing ravetastic nonsense, but it's brilliant that they've gone and made 'Experience pt.2' without giving a fuck if anyone else cares or not.

Re: the Prodigy
i dont feel like throwing AONO under the bus just yet. there was quite a bit of dross on that album, but there were some bright spots that felt like a left-turn, maybe had a small probablility of developing into something interesting later on. of course it didnt, but there was something resembling potential in there.
yet this album feels like end-game prodigy: the best album they could make after 20 years of existing. howlett's throwing everything he's got, and there's nothing to sneer at here, but nothing standing out that i'm getting hooked on either. i'm fond of it because a flurry of beats like this is like watching a fun action movie that knows what it needs to do, but i'm going to try and find it used. |

Re: the Prodigy
Now to get my hands on some brownies and bump this for a few hours for an initial listen.
|
Re: the Prodigy
3 date North American tour...1 in Toronto.
WOOT. i'm really liking the new album. |
Re: the Prodigy
Listened to most of it today in the car on the way to and from work. Loving Thunder, Warrior's Dance, and Run With the Wolves the most so far. It's all pretty damn good though.
|
Re: the Prodigy
was listening to pirahna the other night after work and realized:
this... kinda sucks actually. |
Re: the Prodigy
Piranha and Colours are the weakest tracks.
Thunder, Take Me to the Hospital, and World's on Fire are the best of the songs I hadn't heard yet. Omen and Warriors Dance have the most mass appeal. Last Track ("Stand Up") sounds way too happy and laid back to be from the Prodigy, but it's a great track. Can't wait to play this at the gym.... |
Re: the Prodigy
actually, Colours is growing on me now......still kinda sounds like a B side from Always Outnumbered.
Fucking LOVE Thunder - "I hear Thunder, but there's no rain. This kind of Thunder breaks walls and window panes." - Talking about Bombings or a War perhaps? |
Re: the Prodigy
hmm...
I keep going back and forth as to whether or not I like the album... but I feel like it's a definite improvement over AONO. I can only listen to like 3 tracks off that album now (max) -> Girls, Shootdown, Phoenix It seems that "Warning" has become "Run With the Wolves" which on one hand makes total sense, but I have to admit - I kinda liked the fact that the old chorus was so 'stupid' and I realized it's not really a progression from "experience" - it feels more like "...Jilted..." the last track sounds a lot like one of the older b-sides (I can't remember it's name... maybe "the Knock" or "the Trick" something like that) where / when are the three US dates? |
Re: the Prodigy
they have a very informative myspace page.

Re: the Prodigy
I soooo want to go to Ultra. Got the time off to use for it too. Just might be a bit too pricey and too much of a hassle dealing with the crowds in Miami and such.
"I'm gettin too old for this shit!":D |
Re: the Prodigy
first impression of new album..
..eh.. |
Re: the Prodigy
Quote:
I said before that Pirahna was one of the weaker tracks, but after hearing it a dozen more times I actually think its a great track that always gets stuck in my head ("teeth gripped, razor sharp..").:) Not a bad song on the cd in my opinion, but Omen Reprise and the last track usually get skipped when I'm listening now the same way as I do when I listen to 'Cuddle Bunny vs. Celtic Villagers' on Obvilion With Bells. |
Re: the Prodigy
First impression (just finishing spinning it in entirety now):
um, relentless hardcore. My ears need a break. There are hooks aplenty, but it's just all sort of samey. Every track (save the last one, this silly horn-laden "Stand Up", which sounds like it was stolen from Fatboy Slim) ia a barrage of head-drilling beats and growling guitars. Add too too many synth squelches, sirens and rave piano/key throwbacks and its the Prodigy stuck in 3rd gear...fast enough to get you moving (for a while), but not fast enough to be interesting for very long. Don't get me wrong - i'm a big fan of "Jilted" and "Fat of The Land", because these each had a lot of variety and the harder rock tracks were interspersed with techno (not such a fan of the kinder-rave of Experience, it always gave me a sugar-high-like headache). And i guess back in '97, i liked their menace - seemed dangerous and the sounds new when blasting out "Breathe" or "Mindfields" on the college jukebox. Even "Always Outnumbered..." had some melodic moments and some variety of guest singers...the samey thing about that one was the overdriven basslines that always sound like fart noises to me. Otherwise, it was actually pretty different sounding than FoTL, perhaps a conscious effort by Liam after the crap of "Baby's Got a Temper" as "firestarter pt. 2" But this record? It's just Prodigy to the lowest common denominator. Like "We're the mighty Prodigy, remember? we're badass, hear Flint scream nonsense!" A track or two at a time is fun enough if you're in the mood for audio overload. But 46 minutes straight didn't really inspire. That's a shame, because it's been getting good reviews and i was hoping for more. Oops. |
Re: the Prodigy
I like it. Nothing groundbreaking, but a bunch of fun, high energy tracks and nice 8-bit videogame synth sounds. No complaints here :)
|
Re: the Prodigy
This album is good.
Not great, but good. |
Re: the Prodigy

O.k., in honesty, the album is working a lot better in the car during fast-paced commutes. Maybe headphone listening all the way through is a bad idea. Still, i feel "...Jilted Generation" and "Fat of the Land" work well as cohesive albums - i enjoy listening to them all the way through. "Experience", "AONO" and "Invaders..." trigger the Skip instinct a bit.:o |
Re: the Prodigy
Just got my box set....yay!
:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) ....lost beats EP is great too. |
Re: the Prodigy
Am I the only one getting the feeling that the same people who complained about their last album not sounding like the prodigy are the same people complaining that this one does?
Anyway, on first listen as someone who's not been a huge prodigy fan in the past (I did buy FotL, but I just put that down to peer pressure) I agree with the 'good but not great' opinion. I get the 'sounds a lot like pendulum' comment, but I'm not put off by it, since pendulum are making a shit job of sounding like pendulum these days. I can't take some bits of this album seriously though - I threw away a track I was working on because it relied on a cheesy sample from 'James Brown is dead', but Liam uses the same sample on at least 2 tracks, and as for the wonky rave piano (1:42 into 'World's on Fire') that one was drained of all credibility with it's sarcastic use by Sheep on Drugs in "Track X" back in '92. I'm not that put off by the Fat Boy Slim clone track, probably because I like the odd bit in the middle that sounds like pre-fame Numan. Ho Hum. |
Re: the Prodigy
The actual cd sounds fuckloads better than the leaked rip.
Observe So don't judge until you've listened to the whole RETAIL cd (and the brilliant Lost Beats EP...2 of those tracks should have been on the album IMO). Also check out the Prodigy (& the Chemical Brothers) remix of Oasis' Falling Down: http://www.myspace.com/oasis ..and there is the Noisia Remix and Intrumental/Extended versions of Omen up now on the official page: http://www.myspace.com/theprodigy:eek::eek::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::coo l: |
Re: the Prodigy
aaargh! Found out yesterday that the Prodigy are playing a one off live gig in Amsterdam next wednesday. Of course it's sold out, only about 1500 tickets available. Damn I really want to go there but I don't really feel like spending up to 100 euro for a ticket which is what they seem to be going for on the unofficial circuit.
really digging the new album btw! |
