Underworld Radio Broadcast December 11
 

Dear Underworld,

December 11 is my girlfriend Stepho's birthday. Whenever you do these amazing broadcasts, she and I and our friends all gather in our own chatroom to listen and rock out while working our respective jobs. Stepho's seen you live twice, attended the ArtJam in New York, and just listens to your music all the time. She loves you.

What I'm getting at is that it would be the most incredible thing ever if you would take a moment during the broadcast to wish Stepho in Los Angeles a happy birthday. She'll be 24.

Karl read the msg and Rick sang (?) "happy birthday" to stepho - let's face it, how many bands would do that for their fans?? - I started to weep at that point cos I was so happy for their generosity (but then I'm like that)

We actually had to miss the live broadcast for logistical reasons, and when I later saw the other thread for questions I just assumed my birthday request went unheard!

We've got plans to have a big listening party on Monday with all our friends at their respective jobs. I cannot wait to get to that bit, this will blow everybody's minds! I'm going to go mad keeping this to myself, as none of them read the forum.

Just a heads up then, it doesn't come up until they start talking at length for the first time, which isn't until about 2 hrs. 15 minutes or so into the show.

I decided to wait until last night, which was the birthday party, to play Underworld's birthday greeting for Stepho. I recorded it and put it on my iPhone and asked everyone to be quiet while I plugged it into the stereo system and played it for everybody to hear.

All the Underworld fans there -- many in my circle -- were jaw-droppingly stunned. Stepho loved it of course. It was just a fantastic birthday surprise.

I can't think Rick & Karl enough for this lovely gift. It's especially gratifying for me, a devoted fan for more than a decade now, to have experienced that level of interaction with my favourite band.

(Also, it just made me look very impressive to my girlfriend.)

You can't see the Push Upstairs and Beaucoup Fish posters in that shot. We are about as hardcore as U.S. fans can be, I guess. I really can't express the enormity of my girlfriend's surprise and joy over the birthday wish. This is something neither of us will EVER forget.
