question about the "new" songs
specifically "Always Loved a Film" and "Strumpet" -
ok I know I've read about both of them in various threads buuuut ... I JUST got three of the liveherenow cd's (which don't feature the new songs) [and finally a pair of the awesome socks, which I'm already wearing... and showed off to my g/f, who basically just rolled her eyes at me :) ] and I'm debating buying the newer Brixton show so what I was wondering - is the version of ALaF closer to the (better) 'old' version, which had that nice slow, rolling bassline (like as played at Electraglide - aka the version that was in the UWlive video clip of Karl reading bits off of "In the Belly of Saint Paul") or is like the faster version(s) as played on the various dirty radio shows... oooor is it like the streaming file online now?) [side note: anyone know how to record the streaming files? I can't wait till this (hopefully) will be available to buy...] and "Strumpet" - is it a proper song? Ok wait - I don't think that's a fair word to use... I guess I should say - is it longer than 2-3 minutes long? And I think dubman said that it was an old improv from around 2000 but I forget which show... or did it appear before now at all? ...maybe I should just wait until the 11th and just buy the download wav files |
Re: question about the "new" songs
ALAF in its current form is closest to the Version 4(?) posted on the website, with the major addition of lyrics.
Strumpet is a proper song, about 8 minutes long. It was played before (and mixed with) Confusion the Waitress at Electraglide 2000 (available on the Horde FTP). It's slightly more fleshed out now, including the addition of lyrics. |

i was at the recent gigs and strumpet was sounding fantastic - i've ordered the 2 cd's so i'll let u know (imho) wot version sounds the best. it's deffo a proper song tho... "there is one bird in my house" :) |
Re: question about the "new" songs
p.s. from uwlive it looks like you'll only have to wait til the 10th for the wavs :)

Re: question about the "new" songs
The brighton videos of ALAF and Strumpet are on the RTSR tracker.

Re: question about the "new" songs
They sound excellent but anyone have trouble playing them? I've never had a problem streaming files before ( and yes everything's updated) but for some reason they play like a scratched CD, and there's no way to download them. I'd rather just pay to have them just so I can hear it properly.

Make sure you have the latest QuickTime installed:

Re: question about the "new" songs
i used to have some freeware, Streambox Ripper i think, that allowed you to record streams... but it doesn't work for this, either.
Guess it's back to the old days of putting microphone up to the speaker :p |
Re: question about the "new" songs
hey - so I was listening to the live cd's I just got in the mail...
and one of the albums was London Roundhouse, 29th February 2008 according to the set list, the third track should be "Pearls Girl" and the fourth would be "Airtowel" but track three is DEFINITELY not PG. It starts with a bit of "Airtowel" carried over from "Rez/Cowgirl" (mostly just the vocal loop) then it goes into a completely different track altogether (which is also definitely not airtowel) is that track "Strumpet" ? |
Re: question about the "new" songs
Yeah, on the website, they just posted the setlist, but they deviated from the setlist a little that night. That track starts off with "Airtowel", but is then mixed into "Autotrader 4" (listen to "Phonestrap 6/Autotrader 4").
|
Re: question about the "new" songs
d'oh - I even thought "hey this sounds like that one Phonestrap/Autotrader track"
which also kinda sounds like the track that's played with/before "Confusion" btw - I have NEVER been able to access the horde ftp (yes, even after asking on rtsr and following instructions - but in all honesty that was well over a year ago - if not longer) |
Re: question about the "new" songs
I got Live CDs today as well. But catching up with older gigs.I got postcards!? Not had those before.Pity Rick and Karl didn't write 'wish you were here' on the back lol

yea - it was a bit odd when I put the disc into my laptop, and iTunes said the third track was PG, then that the next one was AT... at first I almost thought I was given the wrong concert! I'm also catching up on these live albums as well, although - I'm trying to just get shows that have either new songs, improv's I don't have, and - well, if it looks like it has a pretty unique set list |

Re: question about the "new" songs
iTunes simply grabs the CD track names based on what someone has entered into Gracenote CDDB. Someone obviously read the tracklist on uwlive.com and submitted that to CDDB. You can submit a correction, but I usually find it isn't worth my time.
Edit: Looked on CDDB, and they used to have a form right on the data where you could submit a correction. Now they just tell you e-mail their support. Pass. |
