Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
A radically different set from last night with things in more traditional places in the setlist, and it was a much more upbeat set. Anyway this is what we got:
1. Darc 2. Cowgirl/Rez 3. Born Slippy (Original) 4. Oich Oich 5. Always Loved A Film 6. King Of Snake 7. Pearls Girl 8. Beautiful Burnout 9, Two Months Off 10. Rowla 11. Strumpet 12. Spoonman 13. Jumbo 14. Born Slippy .NUXX 15. New/Dark Train 16. Moaner Set was about 2hrs10mins and was a lot more packed. Crowd much more active and buzzing. No Kittens but you cant have everything :) Bedtime...zzz |

No 8 Ball? Heh. Sounds like another nice show. Was Darren there?

Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
Well, I'm pissed off.
Somebody could have warned us they boys weren't on stage till 11.30. The last train back to Sussex left Victoria at 12.05 so we had to miss the gig. Two tickets to see Underworld £50 Two tickets to get to London £46 A few drinks in Brixton £60 Finding out you've been stitched: Priceless Maybe Ticketmaster could have seen the cardholder's address and warned us? As long as you all had fun. |
Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
couldn't you have taken a cab home? (I'm not familiar with the drive, but it seems if you were already out the ticket money and stuff.)

Of course you are pissed off but it is a bit much blaming that on someone else, mate. |
Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
Man if i'd come to see Underworld i wouldn't have gone before they had even finished the 3rd track! I would've stayed for the gig, found somewhere to drink after and figure out how to head home later!

Yes, you missed something. It showed up last week at Brighton after an 8 year absence:

Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
Darren Price was not there again. Someone kept coming on stage every now and then to help Rick (was that Malcolm??). I must say I like the sets better with the mixing between the tracks and a few Pricey tunes thrown into the mix - it just seems to flow better. If he is sick I hope he is better soon!
But, loved the set and wow was it LOUD! Can't wait to here Strumpet on the live CD's. Did anyone else notice a problem during Parc - the beats dropped out at one point and it felt like it was not planned. Also, was that the famed 'tokyo light ball' that went crazy at the end during Moaner. If it was'nt, it was very similar and very cool!! Still buzzing :D |
Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
oh, thanks thebang - i've never heard of it before :')

Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
I saw details of start time 11.30. is a shame tho' I would have waited til early morning train rather than miss it. Could not have left. That happened to Darren?
|
Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
I also think that during Darc when the beats dropped out it was unplanned. Karl jusrt improvised and Rick gave thumbs up to thank him.

Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
its a shame they came on so late, i had to leave early too (about 1 am though).
rob da bank was good, played lots of interesting tunes and got the crowd going autokratz reminded me of scooter.......straight boring 4/4 bang bang beats and people trying to look "rock" by twisting knobs and dropping his guitar on the floor...i guess some people liked it ..it bored me rigid ...i wish i'd taken headphones in... underworld were great...some tunes i didnt recognise (although im not a big fan of guitar noodling )..great set though....i just wish theyd been on earlier and they couldve played longer :) i wish people wouldnt keep asking me for drugs... |

Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
It seems some people didn't know what they were letting themselves in for.
When all the ticket websites said 'Underworld - special LATE NIGHT show, 8pm until 2am', and the tickets say 'until 2am' on them, what do you expect? AND the Brixton Academy website had performance times up for over a week before the event. Sorry, but you've only got yourselves to blame, but at least you'll know for next time! Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents a P*ss Poor Performance! ;) |
Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
Just listening to my mp3 of Saturday night and re living it. I can't believe I didn't notice how the beats dropped out on Darc, it's very noticable on the recording! Highlights for me was Born Slippy (the original - 3rd track) and Moaner was a fantastic end to the concert, though I was so hyped up it was hard to believe it had ended. Another fantastic night, I absolutely loved it, as did everyone around me.

Re: Brixton Academy 1st November 2008
Thanks to the SLM person who allowed and encouraged me to take one of the UWlive screenshot posters out of the foyer afterwards. Loverly - anyone else get one?

I really like the Oct31 show too, but it just seems a little more keyed down. I'm getting quite good at discerning how the mood of a show is going to be from a few key tracks: Cowgirl being a big factor. |

Is that really the best band they could find - a piss poor Underworld imitation that sounded about twenty years out of date? Would def. have preferred Rob Da Bank for the whole three hours, he really knew how to work the crowd whereas the support band just yelled at them! Never mind, once Underworld took the stage it was all forgotten... Best.Gig.Ever (till the next one heh) |
