absolutely going to see this.

I don't know what it is about Coen trailers that underwhelm me so much. There last few good movies (Lebowski, O Brother, etc.) had trailers that just did not pull me in, but turned out to be absolutely fantastic films.

I am in Brussels at the moment, and head back to the US on Sunday, and will check this out while I am there.

But, I just got to say, that one of the few things that I truly love about the US is the BIG FUCKING MEGA MOVIE THEATERS!!!!!!!!

It has been two and half years since I have set foot in that country, and I have been watching movies on my 13 inch Macbook in the meantime.

Yes, Marrakech has a movie theater called Megarama, which is nice and huge, BUT, they overdub every damn movie in French, because the people there are too stupid to read subtitles!!!! They literally told me that no one would go to the movies if the english ones had subtitles.

Overdubbing destroys a movie. :mad:

Maybe its because the stories aren't laid out for you to comprehend before you actually see the movie.

That's kinda harsh. Overdubbing does change the nature of the dialogue, for sure, and it ruins a lot of jokes too (or rather, the jokes just don't translate so they put something lame in its place. But you would soon get cheesed off if every movie available to you were in Gudjerati or some-such and you had to read the subtitles all the time.

The US has the lion's share of the movie market, but it is only fair that people should be allowed to see it dubbed into a language they understand in their own countries, ffs. :eek:

I'd go for subtitles every time. Really find it hard to get into a dubbed film.

I like the idea that the coen's follow ups to films that end up being critical darlings end up getting panned. The great thing about it is Burn After Reading was pretty much in the can as No Country was coming out.

It's much like the cold reception Lebowski received after Fargo or The Man Who Wasn't there after O'Brother Where art thou?.

Then in this case they should dub them into Arabic, which is their language not French.:rolleyes:

I see what you are saying though. They could at least show the movie in it's original language once a week, say like on Sunday night or something. There are enough English speaking people in Marrakech now where this is a feasible idea.

But that is a logical idea, and normal logic and Moroccan logic are too completely different things entirely!

I finally watched this yesterday and really enjoyed it as well.

I can see how people would not like it, but they are the most likely same people who don't like Raising Arizona.

I forgot to mention that it is great to see Sledge Hammer on the screen!!!!

That was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid!

For me, it's the other way 'round. I agree that dubbing often takes some of the personality from a movie but subtitles are even worse because they distract from the picture so much.

Plus, the old Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill movies gained so much from German dubbing that they became more popular here than anywhere else, I hear. (They put in all those dodgy puns that I adore.)

Practice your peripheral vision by watching mystery science theater, hahah. All those episodes I saw as a kid were subbed.

Sorry for the bump but,

I just saw this movie and I noticed the same thing. Sledge Hammer is one of my favorite shows now (I was just being born as it came out, bought the DVDs in 2004 and absolutely loved it), but I always assumed the actor just kind of went into a hole or something. Seeing him with the same hair and everything (obviously 20 years older) was a trip.
