the song itself is really too fun to really talk about how much it's been done before. i really like it and i always welcome another sigur ros album

but the video is kinda dumb. great editing but the concept doesnt translate to film as well as it does to photography and it gets old after the third time as being just this facile production.

but i think i'm on my 20th play of this track already.

Hoping this album recaptures the sense of "wow" that so many got from Aegytus Byrjun (sp?!)

For me, "Von" is a little too Radiohead. "Von Brigdi" is a fun dubby remix LP.
"AB" can't be touched. Just lovely.
"( )" made me cry the first dozen times. Now i have to be in a certain melancholy mood to hear it/
"Takk" is where it started to sound "same old" to me.

i don't see any connection between Von and Radiohead... :S

as for the new song: it's, well, ... a bit strange? i'll see them live in three weeks, i guess i'll hear more of the new album then :)
and thanks for the heads up, 0900 - i'd have missed it otherwise :o

while none of the songs can match the highs that takk and () have, as an album it's their most consistent and enjoyable since agaetis.
it's been on repeat here :)

So, is the new LP better than takk and ( ) or just more consistent? For my ears, ( ) was very consistent (read: almost all the songs were in the same vein, the melancholy sparse beginning and the slow build to thundering drums and shredding bow guitar). Agree that takk is a bit more varied.

i just meant consistent in quality. they definitely dont have anything rivaling their poppalagid or njosnavelin moment, but personally i think () is a bit of a chore to get through, whereas this one is just effortless and really enjoyable. takk, considering the first 4 tracks might be their best moment as a band, suffered from attrition at random moments, and 'milano', 'gong', and 'saeglopur' sound really phoned in. whereas the songs here, regardless of what you think of them, sound like they really believed in them rather than just churning them out.

and yes.

I'll take less expressive, climactic peaks if it means more sincerity and grasp of their emotional palette. This one is instant love for me, just like ageatis had been, and unlike anything that has occurred in between.

I think they lost grasp of their intentions and a reality check was long over due. And besides, I never liked how the depression-istas glommed onto the band with such possesiveness, that they did and would forevermore, speak of the infinite sorrows and pains of their hearts.
