Re: Scratch
Filmed by acclaimed director Doug Prey (Hype!, Scratch) using 24p cameras
:D |
Re: Scratch
i saw this a few years' back in a theater at my college. It was very informative and personal, showing the tremendous skill and dedication to practicing that the best turtablists employ. Lots of artists were featured, by DJs Q-Bert and Shadow as well as Mixmaster Mike seemed to get a lot of attention.

Re: Scratch
The DVD has a bonus disc with Qbert explaining how to fix a leaky pipe. This overshadows the actual film!
|
Re: Scratch
a leaky plumbing pipe? or is this a dj term?
|
Re: Scratch
what blows me away, is the collection of vinyl some of them doods have.
like buddies basement...stacks and stacks of records. piled up 6 feet high...TONS. makes Fatboy Slims album cover look like a joke. |

Re: Scratch
I absolutely love this movie. It is so uplifting and inspiring. Makes me want to go out and do my thing after watching it. I also love how non-sequitor the DJ Krush section is. It is in just a total different style from the rest of the movie, but it breaks it up so wonderfully. I recommend this film to everybody, not just electronic music fans.

Re: Scratch
actually, Doug Pray's previous film Hype! is also very good, examining the media explosion surrounding Seattle in the early 90s.
but yeah, Scratch is very well put together. I always love that one guy's gold records all dusty and seemingly discarded in his basement next to his ton of vinyl... I also love Pray's commentary giving indespensable documentarian tricks like just getting someone walking somewhere, doesn't matter where, to layer interview over. Like Steinski just walking up to some random door. hmmm now i feel like watching it again. |
