Daft Punk - Alive 2007

Pretty much everyone who downloaded the now famous Coachella bootleg knows that, even though their latest studio attempt was less than money most of the time, their live show ruled harder than ever. As good as that recording was, it could never be as good as an actual soundboard recording, which is what this is - nearly the exact same show as the Coachella one, just higher sound quality in an 'official' release, which should give techno fans everywhere something to celebrate. If you haven't heard the bootleg (or any of the other ones that cropped up), you're in for a treat - I'm not kidding when I say this is one of the greatest electronic live discs ever made (second only to Everything, Everything in my eyes), and anyone who was ever miffed by the tediousness of an actual Daft Punk album will find this a reason to love the band.

Anyone else got their hands on it??

i got the show from NYC or somewhere else recently and i have to say, i was loving the set while i was in the arena but i just can't stomach it today. it's shallow without the visuals. i hope they release this on DVD.

anyway, it's a good set but it's not going to have a long shelf life.

the version i got only has 12 tracks. is this the same for you? i need the 2nd disc. i got one labelled Deluxe Edition but it doesn't look so deluxe compared to the original tracklisting.

btw, find it here:

if you downloaded the one I did, it's definitely a fake -- identical to the Coachella bootleg.

is this in stores yet? I see a date of Dec. 4

hahaha, i thought it sounded familiar but then again, every set they played was almost identical to one another.

Re: Daft Punk - Alive 2007

well - I downloaded what was supposed to be the new Alive release...

but it was soooooooo much like the Coachella show (and didn't have the 2nd disc with the encore) so - it could be a fake as well

and it still had the Busta Rhymes / Technologic section, which - from what I remember wasn't done in Seattle or on the rest of the tour (and I'm pretty sure was the only thing unique to those early shows (or just to coachella, I don't know)

I'll probably buy the deluxe edition when it comes out... but there's no way in hell I'm going to pay for the 'standard' live show - even if it's in soundboard, as that initial audience recording was pretty damn good

just b/c... well - every show was identical (save for that one 2-3 minute section)

Re: Daft Punk - Alive 2007

their live shows were pretty identical to each other. i head snatches and alterations that werent in the coachella bit, and the crowd was mixed in a lot better, and it generally sounded twice as good. i'm pretty sure i got the right version. plus technologic's "FUCK IT" run and the extra nice bit for too long, and it came with the encore.

of course i'm shelling out for the two disc

Re: Daft Punk - Alive 2007

hmm...

what I downloaded must've been a fake, using the Coachella show as a source for the audio, then the person must've tried seperating tracks in a similar way as the official release

but - I will say, I am kinda pissed how many overly positive reviews I've read about Daft Punk's live shows, especially in Mixmag. Over the past couple of issues, I've read reader responses that were like - dude, it's the same show over and over and over again! And Mixmag basically closes it's eyes, plugs its ears and goes "i'm not listening I'm not listening I'm not listening'

(if that makes any sense)

Re: Daft Punk - Alive 2007

there was leak saying it was the "deluxe version" when it was actually just an audience recording of the Vegoose set.
the 2006 shows are different than the 2007 shows in that the 2007 shows include Burnin' as well as the encore, and other less noticeable changes here and there.

daft punks live show was on a similar level as Kraftwerk. it doesn't matter what they actually do on stage, seeing it happen in front of you with those visuals is transcendental when you're there and buying into it. this same experience happens to the majority of the crowd every night of the tour. it doesn't matter that the soundtrack is almost identical night for night.

Saw it in the shop today and grabbed it, not knowing there was a special edition. Ah well, I'll download the encore track somewhere later.

you know... I wouldn't have a problem with Daft Punk going the Kraftwerk route, if it wasn't for the lack of praise that UW's US tour got... not that anything bad was said - just that nothing has been said - know what I mean?

and if you REALLY want to get 'knit picky' - when you think about it DP's pyramid wasn't much different from the Chem's 'disc thingy' on the "Come With Us US Tour", and the lights weren't too much of a step beyond some other bands I've seen before either

I will give them, though - that they were able to tap into something incredible (that certain 'x factor' if that makes any sense), and that the Seattle show is probably one of the best concerts I've been to ever

Re: Daft Punk - Alive 2007

finally bought this today, in a lovely booklet cover with bonus cd - very nice listening indeed. not as strong as the '97 one (they rush 'rollin and scratchin' and 'alive' too much for that) - but that's picking nits - cracking release!
